Slavery was not ended in America willfully ,as was the case for most European Countries decades earlier!

The slave trade was cultivated around the Ivory Coast, and that region had suffered conflict with Morroco a decade before and so it was weak and factionalized . Hence, to initiate slave trade there is hitting a man when he's already down, dispite the fact that the Morrocans never clearly won their war!

During transport Slaves were packed like fish in a can, and if they fell ill or if a storm was threatened, they were often merely thrown overboard, mounting to millions of lives that have never been accounted for.

It is bad enough that a person be held in slavery, but can you even dare to imagine slavery in a context were there is no hope, not only for yourself but for generations to come!

The Horror does not end even there! After so-called Emancipation, discrimination is held legal and racism is the order of the day well up untill merely a few decades ago, which says nothing about the fact that vestages of it are infact still in place today.

Forget about slavey for a moment and consider this senerio! A man comes along and kidnapps you. That more frequently occurred than you have acknowledged, dispite cases of selling of some or in other cases getting rid of dissidents. Anyway you are kidnapped under force of arms, and transported in a sardine can. You come out of transport only to see lands that are alein to you even with respect to weather conditions, all of this time under chains and shakles.

The kidnapper imposes forced physical labour to the very point of rape and sodomy and when you have childern you somehow have to shelter them, knowing that there is neither any real hope for you or them.

The kidnapper is then pressure from his neighbors who find his activities with you somewhat harsh and obscene, so one day he reluctantly walks up to you and says you are free to go. Oh and by the way if you want to go back home you'll have to pay the same kidnapper for carfare. The psychological stress is also your problem and of course the same kidnapper says he's the only shrink in town!

This Slavery thing is the strangest and most sadistic crime in the history of the world! Blacks by your terms may be free as you say, but they have never been liberated and never been atoned for.

Go read the Geneva Convention on POWs and the right of belligerents to reject any notion of the enemy, with respect to their liberation even in defeat!

I know that you personally did not own my ancestors. I don't hate you; I don't know you. What I do know is that it was Europeans who came to this country and robbed the natives from their land. Correct me if I am wrong but before whites became American, they were European. Didn't they all come over from some European country? So, these people went to Africa, stole blacks from their land and then eventually purchased blacks from leaders in Africa. I believe that both parties should be blamed when a dirty deal goes down. But, when your enemy has guns and you have none, it doesn't really make a difference if you resist or not. So even if an Africa leader refused to sell his people, they would have just been taken by force. Remember, the south did not want slaves freed; remember the civil war. So, whether or not the reasons were noble, blacks were freed. Enter Jim Crow laws. These laws were created by white men. My mother and those before her have every right to hate the white people who created and maintained this system they were forced to live in. Check out this site on Jim Crow: http://www.nps.gov/malu/documents/jim_crow_laws.htm

Today is a new day. We are not going to get anywhere as a society if we continue to play the blame game. History is what it is. Slavery, which this country was built upon, laid the foundation for the hatred that is breed in many today. Some choose hatred out of ignorance, some out of experience. Whatever the reasons one thing is for sure: we all need to take personal responsibility for our lives today and seek to create a better legacy for the future.

Please learn to use spell check and punctuation, so the next time you go on a tirade, I'll be able to comprehend what you are saying. Oh, and technically, they have a right to be mad because some slave owners treated the slaves terribly. Everyone just needs to learn from the past so we refrain from making the same mistakes. And, I'll agree with Mike, the Native Americans should have problems too. Yes, it was in the past, but these people just want to make sure that the hardships of their ancestors are not forgotten. Don't Caucasian people do the same?

i imagine the question will be extra efficient, "Why carry out slightly blacks." or you're assuming something that purely isn't real. Many African human beings do not imagine that in any respect and make their personal successes. i imagine that the liberal media and the democrats have fostered this theory. The media does it because it makes a arguable tale, the democrats do it to get votes. The ironic aspect is that the president who signed the Emancipation Proclamation became the first Republican president. each of the democrat presidents earlier him did no longer something to end slavery. Oh, and did Clinton have any noticeably positioned African human beings in his cupboard? no longer that all people ever heard of. GW had 2, Powell and Rice. for sure an African American chum of mine said those 2 persons as being both traitors to their race and "oreos" which i concept became appalling and unfaithful. Its too undesirable this kind of aspect takes position in any respect. All that variety of attitude does is foster raceism. i desire that sometime each individual will purely get alongside yet i'm no longer relying on it.

Are Africans owed something? YES! Are Natives owed something? YES! To this day, a cycle of poverty and racism that spanned generations has kept many from achieving the "American dream"; a cycle that started from colonial days when they were pushed and shoved away from their homes. They are especially owed because the racial harmony depicted in Hollywood only comes in the form of stereotypes of the "funny black guy" or low level tokens who are strategically placed in commercials or shows to appease troublesome interest groups. Racism is still real, and more far reaching than most white people will ever understand. To simply ignore it and say that "we're all the same" doesn't really hack a solution. Affirmative action is one way in which America's debt is paid.. because without it, they WILL be discriminated against.

I am African American and I do not know of anyone in my family or my friends that feel that we are owed anything. I think that this situation is due to the media and other races are buying into it. I am a professional who makes over 6 figures and I have worked very hard to get to this point. I never felt like I was owed anything.

My community is approximately 1/3 Black, 1/3 White, and 1/3 Native American and just about EVERYONE seems to think they're owed something. I'd put big money on it being a class issue, not a race issue.

Yes. The only people that should be owed something are the people that were actually slaves or victims of segregational laws. Blacks today do not deserve any compensation for hardships their ancestors faced.

I agree with Mike...I am an African American woman and I don't feel like you owe my diddly squat. You are probably the only person dwelling on who owes whom what. It's not that serious. If you feel like clearing up who owes who, shouldn't you try to figure out what you and yours owe the Native Americans for taking their land?
