The primary explanation is that most people are taught the biblical version of how life got here when they are young and then inadequately taught evolution in high school. Couple that with the fact that people take an all or none approach with religon, that is you accept both the old and new testament, which includes Genesis.
What I find interesting is that for a long period of time, it was widely accepted that the earth was the center of the universe until Copernicus proved the sun was the center. Science proved the church wrong, as it has done with how life is created. We are taught as children that the sun is the center of universe, but as children we are not taught evolution.
The vast majority of people do not understand evolution, it is complex and technical. Creationism is extremely simple and be understand in layman terms and it is easy to accept something if it is easy to understand. Most people can not name the two principles upon which evolution is based: natural selection and heredity. Once you understand evolution the world makes a lot more sense.

God or evolution? Most people say both is right becaus they believ and know God exist and they have been taught that there is overwhelming evidence that evolution is true. In fact , evolution is a theory that has been proven wrong for years. Here are three of reasons why.
1. The Second law of thermodynamics says no
The second law of thermodynamics tells us that a system will always go from ordered to disordered unless there is a plan or outside intelligence to organize it.
World-renowned evolutionist Isaac Asimov when discussing the second law of thermodynamics said:
"Another way of stating the second law then is: 'The universe is constantly getting more disorderly!'" Viewed that way we can see the second law all about us. We have to work hard to straighten a room, but left to itself it becomes a mess again very quickly and very easily. Even if we never enter it, it becomes dusty and musty. How difficult to maintain houses, and machinery, and our own bodies in perfect working order: how easy to let them deteriorate. In fact, all we have to do is nothing, and everything deteriorates, collapses, breaks down, wears out, all by itself - and that is what the second law is all about." 1
As Isaac Asimov says, everything becomes more disordered when left to itself. The theory of Evolution puts forward the idea that the atoms produced after the 'Big Bang' organized themselves without a plan and finally produced the human body after billions of years.
Evolution has no plan or outside intelligence and according to the second law of thermodynamics can never take place.

2. Living things must form from living things
To produce a living thing you must start with a living thing.
Evolution requires non-living matter to turn into a living thing and this has never been observed.

3. The missing links are still missing
If evolution was true, there should be large numbers of intermediate fossil organisms present in the fossil record. These 'links' are conspicuous by their absence.
After well over a hundred years of intensely studying the fossil record the 'missing links' are still well and truly 'missing'.
Evolutionists such as Stephen Jay Gould concede this when they say, "The evolutionary trees that adorn our textbooks have data only at the tips and nodes of their branches; the rest is inference, however reasonable, not based the evidence of fossils."

WHy can't the two be resolved. Because evolution is not real, but God is. If you want reasons why God is real try

The more I study the complexities of evolution and the amazing diversity in the world, the more I believe in God. Evolution is scientific fact (and I'm not going off on how many people "believe" in this or that scientific concept or criticize evolution b/c it is "just a theory" b/c I'll get too mad). Evolution doesn't preclude God. I just think we're like his rubic's cube or something.
A good movie to "compare" science and religion (as if they were mutually exclusive) is Contact, with Jodi Foster. Deals with science, belief, and proof.

First- "That means that darwin doesn't exist"...uh, are you serious? Here he is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Darwin
also, evolution doesn't exactly say that "man came from monkies",simply that we share a common link in evolution. Do a little research, please!
God and science are at each other's throats because people will believe thousand year old scribblings over modern knowledge.
This is what happens when people take the bible literally. They refuse to believe in billions of years of fossils and thousands of years of scientific research and study. Here's some info on evolution (i heart wikipedia, by the way...)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution
Here's an example: Recently, they uncovered a cave area that had been isolated from the rest of the world for literally millions of years. They found 8 new species of insects and crustaceans living in there; they were much different than 'normal' especially because they were blind and colorless. Now, it seems more likely to me that these animals slowly adapted and evolved, generation by generation, to their environment over the course of millions of years than uh...god put them there and made them that way to begin with.
If you don't believe in evolution, what do you think about animals like dinosaurs and prehistoric versions of animals we still have today? I should go make that a question on this site right now!

As a Christian, I don't see why both can't exist. The Bible says that God created all things, it does not go into the specifics of this creation, nor could we possibly comprehend them. It is very possible that God uses evolution as a means of creation and improvement upon his creation or that evolution is a very small cog in the rest of his divine machine. The bottom line is that one day we will know for sure, but untill then it is impossible for us as finite beings to understand the infinite realm of God.

They can't be both correct. I'm a Christian, and I know for a fact that it says in the Bible that God created man. That means that darwin doesn't exist, and that we didn't come from monkeys, fish, single-celled organisms, or any of that stuff. Also, he created birds in the week of creation, so that means they didn't come from dinosaurs. I could go on, but then again, believe whatever you think is right from researching. I mean, the Bible mentions unicorns several times, but still people call them a thing of fantasy.

like the question: Is god so powerfull he can create a rock so large, even he can't lift it? I think that the theory of evolution, and a belief in god, can coexist in the same brain, if the person is open minded. otherwise, these 2 things cancel eachother out.
