My mother being 86 years old says this, "the whole idea of shaving anywhere on the body, is not only to look better, feel better, but to maintain hygiene resepctively."

Women began shaving their legs when the skirts became shorter and women started wearing nylon stockings, and then pantyhose. Made it much easier to pull them on, instead of tugging them on over the bristly leg hairs. Gave a smoother look to the leg, instead of bumpy.

Same with shaving under the arm, when the sleeves got shorter, so did the hair under the arms. Also to cut way back on the body odor and wetness in that area by being hairless helped a great deal. The rest of the body is just plain self explanitory. ;-) Some like it alot, some like it not, and some just want a strip of it, where others just want a pretty little heart.

As for Culture...even our God, your God, any body's God...wants us to look and feel our best. So my vote is to snip it and get rid of it...ha! Times have changed, and it's time to get caught up in the real world.

HA!...this question and answers is just too funny!!! kindest regards, ~~mafi

not me, I guess women are suppose to have hairy underarms and hairy legs or there wouldn't be hair there to begin with, but hairy legs and underarms don't seem feminine. I do appreciate all the effort women go to to look nice. I know I would have a tough time shaving my legs every day or two. and my arm pits.

hey hun....with all these down in the mouth answers i thank its time for a little encouragement... i think it is a little less common for a girl not to shave but not any less attractive....after all hair grows under your arms so there for it is natural....i think your friend should be encouraged for realizing what natural beauty is and for not shaving just to simply satisfy what modern society considers beautiful....love daisy

Personally I didn't shave my arm pits for a very long time because of my beleifs, it doesn't feel different, but it's much harder to stay 'fresh' I suppose. It's not ATTRACTIVE, but it's not incredibly gross either. Come on people we all have hair get over your vanity..

IN SOME CULTURES IT IS SUPPOSE TO BE VERY ATTRACTIVE FOR WOMEN TO NOT SHAVE ANY HAIR OFF AT ALL, NOT EVEN THEIR LEGS.....I HAVE I IDEA WHAT IS UP WITH YOUR FRIEND BUT IN MY OPINION I THINK IT IS NASTY TO SEE A FEMALE WITH HAIR ON THEIR LEGS AND UNDER THEIR ARMS..........YOU HAD BETTER PAST THE WORD TO YOUR FRIEND THAT SHE DOESN'T BELONG TO THAT CULTURE.....AND THAT SHE BETTER START SHAVING .IF SHE DOESN'T GET THE HINT.........MAYBE YOU SHOULD BUY HER A PACK OF RAZORS AND TELL HER HAVE AT IT NOW...........

It doesn't matter to me but then I don't date women! Some girls & ladies don't shave due to cultural beliefs. If your friend isn't wearing tank tops, sleeveless outfits, etc, who cares?! No one will see it.

No, I don't. In the U.S. most women shave their underarms, so many people think it is gross when people don't.
