I don't think your hard drive is properly connected, try opening your cpu and check on it.

Turn the computer off, check that the power and IDE cables are correctly attached. Also check you have the jumper set correctly to Master or Slave.
Turn on the computer and go into the Bios. There should be an auto detect feature on most modern bioses, run that and see if it picks up the hard drive.
If the Bios isn't picking it up then check your Bios/motherboard supports that size hard drive.
This is all I can think of right now :)

1: Check to make sure both ends of cable are connected correctly and firmly. It's VERY easy to have the connector "flipped over". Pin number one should have a stripe on the cable. Pin number one on the drive should be closest to the power socket of drive.
2: Make sure Power Cable is conected.
3: If more than one drive is in computer make sure the drive pins are set to Slave. However, if the factory drive has been set to CABLE SELECT (CS) set the other drive to CS as well. The manual that came with the drive will have instructions and photos on how to do so. Alos, most drives have a Pin chart on the drive itself.

or its not working at all?
if you let me know exact status @ this...I will surely help you. Don't open CPU unneccessarily...if the hard disk was working properaly last time when you used it.
Connections provided in PC are designed very carefuly...& its rare to have any loose coneection there.
Specify the exact status about boot system then I can say you whats next.
Thanks :)

If you want to reinstall OS:
I think that yor HDD connected through ATA
First of all take your motherboard driver insert it into cd-rom and insert disket into floppy and do a copy of ATA driver,
1 - Go to BIOS select CD-rom as first boot device
2 - Insert CD with OS to cd-rom
3 - when install OS press F6 and insert disket into floppy and driver will install for HDD and it will be detect

First, If It´s a new Hard disk, you have to configured as Master or Slave. Second; If It´s a hard disk that you always is in your cpu, check the conection cable as power as conection. If the both cables is well. You have to configured in setup you hard disk again. If you hard disk no working now you have to replace it.
