garlic has many beneficial properties for people of all ages. however, it would do well to keep the heart of a 49 year old in good shape(along with exercise and healthy eating, as i'm sure you know)

Some scientific research indicates that garlic can have some health benefits, such as diminishment of platelet aggregation[8]; a meta-analysis showing significant (12%) lipid lowering of cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol; treatment of hyperlipidaemia; the significant inhibition of atherosclerosis via the use of aged garlic extract Kyolic[11]; and the protective nature of chronic garlic intake on elastic properties of aorta in the elderly[12]. Regular and prolonged use of therapeutic amounts of aged garlic extracts lower blood homocysteine levels, and prevent some complications of diabetes mellitus. It may have some cancer-fighting properties because it is high in diallyl sulphide (DADs), believed to be an anticarcinogen.[13]

In modern naturopathy, garlic is used as a treatment for intestinal worms.

Garlic cloves continue to be used by aficionados as a remedy for infections (especially chest problems), digestive disorders, and fungal infections such as thrush. They are claimed to be an effective long-term remedy for cardiovascular problems reducing excessive blood cholesterol levels, atherosclerosis, the risk of thrombosis, and hypertension but these claims are disputed, as there has been no clinical trial that has demonstrated any such benefits. Whole cloves used as suppositories are sometimes used as a home remedy for Candidiasis (yeast infections). Garlic is also alleged to help regulate blood sugar levels, and so can be helpful in late-onset diabetes, though people taking insulin should not consume medicinal amounts of garlic without consulting a physician. In such applications, garlic must be fresh and uncooked, or the allicin will be lost.

Stop looking and love will find you. I looked and found 3 failed and abusive marraiges. I'm now 48yrs old, have 3 grown children and out of the blue 3yrs ago a man pulled into my driveway giving someone a ride to my house and we hit it off (as friends). He had been thru the same crap I'd been thru and given up on women. At that point... I was ready to spend the rest of my life with my dog and be content to not be unhappy with mean men. I always wondered and asked God why couldnt' I be happy? Wasn't I worthy of it? Well..what I didn't realize that I was picking all the wrong men. God had a man for me..and I just was putting it all into my own hands and going for all the bad men. Oh..they looked good in the beginning. But, it always ended up being abusive mentally or they'd cheat on me, put me down, yell at me, etc, etc. Now I have a wonderful man whom I've been with 3yrs and I still get goosebumps when he kisses me. We will have been married a yr on Jan 2 2010. I had to quit my job and had to go on Social Security and so I'm home all the time. He is laid off and going back to school at age 45. He is 3yrs younger than me. for the past yr we have spent 24/7 together and yes..we get into our little disagreements..but from the very start we said that there was NOTHING that we couldn't work out. NOTHING that we wouldn't talk about to keep our love strong. And, believe me being with someone 24/7 for a YEAR! That would drive almost anyone nuts! lol But, we are two pea's in a pod.We never fall asleep mad at each other, and the last thing we say to each other before we fall asleep is I love you baby. EACH NITE! Believe me...I've been where you are and as hard as it would be to go thru it again to get what I have now....I'd do it. He loves me as much as I love him. And, that is all that matters. He was raised in a Christian home with a dad as a pastor and turned his life around and I was raised in a Christian home and my dad just recently passed away. My husband is my best friend. Don't look for love...let God bring it to you. HE WILL! Trust me... There is someone just for YOU out there... in due time. In God's time. Stop looking and love will find it's way to you. I'll be praying for you. God Bless ~b

Garlic is always good for anyone. Garlic is a preventive for many chronic conditions, digestive as well as respiratory.

Here's a short list of other disorders which, studies show, can be eased with regular doses of garlic.

ARTHRITIS: Garlic taken daily helps ease the pain and possibly eliminate the disorder by stimulating the immune system.
ASTHMA: A combination of garlic and honey can help stop an attack if taken right away, say herbal practitioners.
BLADDER INFECTIONS: Garlic has proven effective in killing the bacteria responsible for recurrent bladder infections.
BLOOD PRESSURE: Garlic and onions are both packed with allicin, selenium and other nutrients which, studies show, help keep hypertension under control.
CANCER: For many years the National Cancer Institute has been studying how common foods can help safeguard against this killer disease -- and garlic has definitely proved to be a formidable weapon. It is a member of a food group that contains powerful phytochemicals -- compounds researchers believe inhibit cancer growth. The pungent herb may also be effective in preventing the onset of deadly colon cancer, report researchers at the prestigious University of Texas M. D. Anderson Hospital.
CHOLESTEROL: Heart-damaging LDL cholesterol can be reduced by eating a moderate amount of raw garlic or a couple of garlic pills on a daily basis, studies show.
COLDS: This remedy won't make you popular at parties, but it should nip your cold in the bud: keep a peeled garlic clove in your cheek and bite it every so often to release the juice, which helps kill viruses. Change the clove every couple of hours. In most cases, your cold will be gone within 24 hours. Regular doses in tablet form are also effective.
COUGHS: A syrup made of raw garlic and honey can quell the toughest cough. Mince six cloves of garlic and put them in a jar with a cup of honey, then let it sit for about two hours. When your cough gets bad, take a teaspoon and enjoy the relief. This can also be effective in pill form. Garlic tea is also an effective cough remedy. To make it, add three minced cloves to a cup of just boiled water and let the mixture steep for about ten minutes. Strain out the garlic bits and drink the remaining liquid. But don't throw out the garlic -- you can add them to sup or other dishes at dinnertime.
DROWSINESS: Slice a garlic clove and inhale deeply. This will perk you up almost immediately.
EARACHE: Prick a small hole in a couple of garlic cloves and squeeze the juice into the affected ear. Plug the ear with a piece of cotton and let sit for several hours. Relief should arrive in no time.
FERTILITY: We already know that garlic is believed to be an aphrodisiac and libido stimulant, so couples hoping to start a family are encouraged to consume fresh garlic or garlic pills every day.
FOOD POISONING: Garlic has long been recognized as an effective antidote to many common forms of food poisoning. Just to be on the safe side, always consult your local poison control center should you or anyone in your family show signs of serious food poisoning. Quick action can save lives.
FUNGUS INFECTIONS: Whether its athlete's foot or any other common fungal infection, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. You can ward off any kind of fungal infection by adding one or two cloves of fresh garlic to your diet every day.
GINGIVITIS: This disorder is characterized by red, swollen or bleeding gums, and often results from poor dental hygiene. To alleviate the symptoms, take a capsule containing garlic and parsley extract every four hours for three days.
HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE: Daily doses of garlic fed to patients by Prof. F. G. Piotrowski of the University of Geneva produced the first clinical evidence of how amazingly effective garlic is in relieving hypertension and its accompanying symptoms of chest pains and dizziness.
INDIGESTION: Two garlic pills after lunch and dinner immediately banishes indigestion because garlic helps stimulate the secretion of digestive juices.
INSECT STINGS: Place a peeled garlic clove over the sting and wrap it in a bandage: leave it for about two hours.
