Ketema Morocco, While traveling through North Africa I ventured into Ketama a small village in Morocco. Most everyone in Ketama are farmers, they raise Cannabis Sativa, which they process into Hashish,( aka Kiff) which is smoked in a long wooden pipe with a small ceramic bowl at the end. I visited with the farmers for a few days and headed north to Tangier where I was going to take a ship across the strait to Gibralter and then up to Paris to make my flight back to the States, and home to Arizona. I thanked my hosts made my purchase and headed out on my 60cc Girelli Motorcycle. As i put Ketama behind me I noticed I was being tailed by the local authorites, which then pulled me over and arrested me for exporting Hashish. In Morocco in 1971 it was legal to purchase Hash and smoke it anywhere, but it was illegal to transport it from it's origination, that being the town where purchased! I was politely transported to the local policia station where I explained that I was not leaving town, but was merely cruising around seeing the sites, so to speak. They didn't like my story , but at that time in Morocco, Americans were highly respected and everywhere I went people would follow me around just to talk to me and learn what I as an American was all about. This respect was obvious, so when the policia took my block of Kiff and my 35mm and told me I could leave I milked my uniqueness to the max.!I took back the kiff and pushed my camera across the table to them and said "how about this? After a brief discussion that's the way we let it be.I left Ketama with a key and the cops got a American 35mm camera. After working my way up through Spain into France I arrived in Paris, went to the Western Union , traded my plane ticket for another one leaving a few weeks later, from Amsterdam! Wow what a trip.
