They hope to bestow upon Mr. Lay in death the respectability he did not earn in life and are relying on the public's disdain for speaking ill of the dead to disallow any contradiction. To answer a question with a question... Is it possible that they are trying to foster a little irrefutable innocence by association?

The reports I've seen or heard are more biographical and he did have an interesting career. However, I haven't gotten any impression that in death he is pardoned for what he was found guilty of. The big question now seems to be whether his conviction will be erased and thereby his widow will get to keep a large chunk of change.
I find the timing of his death more interesting than his career. You gotta wonder...

Farly the Seer has my vote right now as the best answer. Don't believe and overly exagerate what you see and hear on the news. One person or two may have said he had a nice "personality", but come on, is anyone REALLY saying they think he was fantastic and right in everything that he did (which by theory would be a saint)? I think not.

Nobody is calling him a saint, including our president.
Probably Ken Lay, like everyone, did some good things but that doesn't mean that what he was convicted of was acceptable or saintly. He was guilty according to our justice system, and no one is saying anything else.

"Why is the media and Bush calling Ken Lay a saint?" -- not true about Bush OR the media -- and Ken Lay/Enron spread the money around trying to influence both Reps and Dems -- you probably already know this and just want to score political points -- deceit is your only weapon I guess.

They are calling him a saint because he is deceased and they don't have to worry about Mr. Lay revealing anything more than he already had. They are in the clear. They can sleep in peace knowing that they won't need to go to court or answer anymore questions concerning Mr. Lay.

Uh, what news are you watching? All the news reports I've seen were respectful (cuz the guy's dead), but they never said he was a good guy, let alone a saint.
Lighten up, I think your exaggerating. And don't try so hard to drag the President into every negative situation. The Enron criminal activity was going to occur no matter who was president.

they call him a saint because there is nothing rich people love more than to congradulate each other for being rich. also because he tricked alot of hard working people out of their money and got away with it without spending a day in jail. see, rich people think jails are for poor people only, they think they're too good for prison because they're rich, therefore they'll cheer for any of their kind who avoids jail time, no matter how its done. the point is they're celebrating that yet another man got rich by screwing the little guy, and with no punishment passed away enjoying the lavish lifestyle that all rich people worship

In the context of big business and politics, Ken Lay was a good guy and a good 'ol boy. These kinds of good 'ol boys are how many of our leaders rose to power and office. They are members of the same club. Similar ethics and values...or rather the absence of them.

Did he? I didnt hear that one. If you are going to make accusations like that the very least you can do is to quote a source, otherwise you look like chicken poo. I am not calling you a liar, but where is ur source?
