If you want to teach elementry school, a BA in elementry education and a teaching cirtificate will do. At the HS level, a BA in one of the fields taught, math, english, biology, etc., along with a teaching cirtificate may get you by, but a lot of the school systems lately are looking for people with MAs. At the Jr. College level, the MA will work, and you don't need the critificate. For a job at a college or university you need a Ph.D.

You don't necessarily need a PhD to be a teacher in college. I had a handful who weren't doctors. Other than that, the 3rd person to respond is right on the money.
If you're just looking to become an elementary school teacher, get the BA in elementary ed. In my particular state, they just passed a thing saying we can become certified in other fields if we pass the Praxis 2 for that subject. It's a test lots of states make you pass in order to become certified to teach. For now, if a P.E. teacher wants to be certified in English, they can pass the Praxis 2 for English & get that extra certification. I'm rambling. Get a BA in education. :)

that is exactly what i want to be well, i am still not sure but it is either that or social worker..anyway i think it takes four- six years after high school you go to college which that is four years and by the time you are done or actually on your second third year you will already be a teacher so you just will have to complete college four years and that is it unless y ou might want to get a higher education u know to get more money than, i would say 6 years total after high...school....
