My son worked for several years in this business and I've done consulting for a porta-potty business. You'll find on a whole that the jobs pay between 10-18/hr depending on your responsibilities.

The servicing job, (pumping and cleaning the toilets) require you to drive a pump truck. The truck empties the toiliet, you clean it and restock it. Having reliable employees is one of the biggest problems. These businesses also usually have a need for CDL drivers to drive the heavier tank trucks as most of these businesses also pump out, service and repair on-site septic and cesspools. Some companies use a back-hoe operator as well for installing and repairing systems.

A large percentage of toilets are long term rentals that are serviced on site. (construction sites, golf courses, truck yards, etc..). An entry level guy might start simply dropping off and picking up toilets from special events using a pickup truck and trailer. When there are no toliets to deliver, the time is spent cleaning and repairing toilets in the shop. Eventually you move up to running a pump truck for servicing the toilets in the field.

The business can be good for a good owner who attends to detail. The employees are employees. They have good days and bad days like everyone else. Many employees are HS grads, some are not. No college needed unless you intend to get into the design side of on-site systems. Bad drivers need not apply. You need a half-way decent drivers license as most places might only have one position in the 'yard' that doesn't need a license.

Your best bet to get into this area is simply look in the yellow pages for porta-potty services and either visit the office or call. My guess is most places have high turnover and are usually interested in good people. If your good employee, long term employment won't be an issue.

I imagine it is true. Supply and demand. Not many people are willing to do it, therefore they have to pay well.

Try your local paper, or contact an establishment that you know has them and ask them who they do business with...go from there.
