It's because they twist the words of the Bible. And that, of course, was written by men. My personal belief is that lots of religion are merely a form of the old boys clubs.

There was a time, not long ago, when the social and familial roles of men and women were well defined. During this time many institutions developed under male design. Over time male rule became tradition. Breaking tradition is difficult because it requires work, compromise, and shifting power. It is easier to defend tradition than change it. I am a firm believer in "Women are from Venus, Men are from Mars". We solve problems differently. Asking any "traditional" institution to accept a new way of solving problems into its ranks is, was, and will be met with considerable resistance.

Its too bad, really. We all need the influences of both genders to be balanced and healthy. I think the myth of male power needs to be shaken up for the sake of males. We die younger because of it. I think maternal guidance on a spiritual level could be very comforting.

I see no reason, other than tradition, as to why women are kept from the upper ranks.

Because most religions feel as though women are supposed to be submissive to men. If a woman is submissive, that means man is dominate. Men, in society, should be over women.

Yes, it sucks, but until something is done, women will forever be barred.'

I agree with 1 Corinthians 11 but women and children have their place within the family arrangement and within the congregation. Ephesian 5:22-6:4

We are living in a patriarchal society/world.
Unconsciously, men are afraid of women because we are a mystery to them on more than one level. Religious laws were written a long time ago at a time when survival meant power and men then as now, were not ready to surrender their powers to a "weaker" being. Now, I think that the reasons are still more or less the same but with another twist added to it: tradition.

Because religions are the complete idiot's explanation of the universe. A woman, therefore, would never explain the universe in such a way; which is to say, a woman would never create a religion.

Men created religion and they felt threatened by girl power, so they made stupid rules like "Thou shalt rape your wife whenever she tells you 'aw, stop it, would you? You're giving me a headache'"

If you don't believe me, look at religions. The absolute top one that oppresses women more than all others is Islam. Now look at Muslim women. They on average grow to be taller and more corpulent than their male counterparts.

The more threatened men feel, the more oppressive they'll get.

Of course nowadays there's blondes like moi who make perfect Wiccans like moi and we make rules to imply women superiority because our leaders think we need them because they really do think men are somehow capable of being better than us, and feel threatened by the thought. But nobody cares anyway, so if you could just click the button beneath this answer that says "Select as best Answer".... (=P)

Because of 1 Corinthians chapter 11 where it states that the head of a woman is man and the head of man is Christ. It also states that woman was created for the sake of man. So to most religions, women are nothing.

It stems from the thinking that a man is the head of the household. Something which has been erroded severely in the recent past. Leaving the male feeling less responsible for maintaining a home and family. Sadly, statistics bear this out... too many one parent families.

well it is so as we are all living in a men's dominated arena and giving women rights in the religious field would mean that men are going to lose power and control in one sector of life which is obviously not wanted by men..women are spiritually higher as they have the boon and grace of giving birth meaning that this is one superiority which men will never achieve and i dont see why they should be barred from their upper ranks as every thing such as good moral values and arms to face life are given by women..so
