Leg cramps at night are from a lack of calcium. Drink more milk preferably, or take supplements that will give you the minimum, at the very least, of your required amount of calcium.
I used to wake up from painful leg cramps, found out the reason and suffered no more.

I had leg cramps for almost 30 years, until my doctor told me to raise my potassium, either by a banana a day or by taking over the counter tablets. Also. stretch your calf muscles before going to bed. Put the toes of one leg against the wall, and slowly back the other leg away, while keeping your heel flat on the ground. Hold for 10 seconds, then switch legs.

You can use 400mg of Magnesium supplements daily and taht should help leg cramps. And they are going in the right direction with bananas...Potassium also helps. Wouldn't hurt to take that supplement also.
