Any team that goes to the playoffs has a decent chance to make it to the World Series. While my gut feeling says it will be Mets-Tigers, we're only about halfway through the season. And so...
AL EAST: Boston is the likely winner. The New York Steinbrenners cannot be counted out this early, however. The extreme dark horse is Toronto.
AL CENTRAL: This goes down to the wire. I think the Tigers can hold off the White Sox. Both teams must collapse for the Twins to catch up; not likely.
AL WEST: Weenies, weenies, weenies. Oakland looks to be the best of a bad lot. The mighty Mariners will only have a chance if they can pull everything together.
AL WILD CARD: The White Sox, unless they manage to surge past Detroit, in which case it's the Tigers. If one of those teams collapses, then and only then would the Twins, the Steinbrenners or the Blue Jays have a real chance at the playoffs.
NL EAST: Meet the Mets, meet the Mets, step right up and greet the Mets...Atlanta's run is over. The rest of the division is anemic.
NL CENTRAL: The annual battle between St. Louis and Houston continues, with Cincinnati entering this lists to add spice this year. Any of the three could win it, but the Cardinals will triumph again. Not even an entire herd of goats in Wrigley Field will get the Cubs in this year.
NL WEST: The best balanced division in the majors. According to my official prediction, the Rockies will take it because they were the only team to take a series from the Seattle Mariners during interleague play (Diamondbacks 0-3, Dodgers 1-2, Giants 0-3, Padres 1-5, Rockies 2-1). But any of them could do it except the Diamondbacks. My personal hope: anybody but the Dodgers. ("Walter O'Malley is a fink! May his Dodgers sink, sink, sink!") Alas, because they are so well balanced, the wild card might not come from this division.
NL WILD CARD: Your guess is as good as mine, unless you guess the Dodgers, and then it isn't as good. I'll say it could be either Cincinnati, Houston, or the second-place finisher in the West (the Dodgers will be fourth - ha!).

The Mets (a solid choice)
The AL is a different story.
There are 3 teams that have a good solid chance--
Boston
Chicago
Detroit
Boston & Chicago both have recent experience...but Detroit has pitching, defense, and hitting. (not say the sox dont, they do)
But the difference is Detroit has the GUMPTION and one heck of a manager! (not dissing either sox manager)
PLus, Boston and Chicago have both had thier day in the sun...
Now it is Detroit's turn.
Personally I would love to see Chicago & Detroit in the ALCS.
I'd be too afraid to play Boston for the ALCS.
So, in a runabout way, I guess Detroit & New York
