Oddly enough we have learned from counseling that people come to identify themselves wit their work, even if it is unfulfilling. It has been observed in the case of many alcoholics, for example, that he can be threatened with the loss of his family, friends and even his health but the ultimate threat seems to be his job. It is a very odd characteristic.
In addition, there is a huge danger when people retire because of this particular character trait. People often actually make themselves sick from the stress and die if they are not prepared for the changes that will inevitably occur during retirement.

Most of the time people stay with jobs that they do not like due to the Pay or the Benefits. Good jobs are often very hard to find, and you really do not have to like your job to be able to do your job.
As for a relationship, well that deals with our hearts, and we so not want to live with a broken heart.

with a job you deal with it for the 8 hours or so during the day then you can go home vent drink w/e you want but with a relationship you usually have no way to escape it except to end it...money is another incentive to stay with the job because no matter what you will still get paid no matter how much you dislike your job

simply because the job has become second nature and requires less effort than getting a new job, where as a dissatisfying relationship seems to require more effort to make it work,...................in short laziness

The shadows of abuse become comfort....and change is difficult...both in question fall into the top 10 stressors of perpetual anxiety proven. To leave a place of employment is the MOST like (Again proven) to be akin to the #1 stressor which is "Moving"...hence it is a total re-acclimation to surroundings. I stand my ground on this one.
As far as relationships go, 1)There is always hope that in our hidden childlike innocence we can watch it magically change, therein hanging in there.
2)The effect again of lingering shadows of comfort in denial.
3)Should anyone see what I have scribed here, think about taking it on board...I have been through both....and trust me I am NOT laughing.
4)Now my reply....I would REFUSE to remain in either.

At least in a job you're getting paid for the aggravation, in a relationship, more than likely (if you're the man), YOU are paying for the lady or partner and don't need the angst!
