A child's culture can give them a different way of responding to situations. In some cultures it's disrespectful to look an adult in the eyes, while in others it's disrespectful not to. If you don't understand where the child has come from, then it will be difficult to know how the child is feeling or why they are acting a certain way.

There are things in one culture that may be offensive to another. For example, many native American children are taught looking into someone's eyes is a sign of disrespect, but in other cultures you can just hear the adult saying, "Look at me when I speak to you." Or, Americans tend to talk with their hands a lot, but some cultures think it is rude.

Don't be judge mental, be yourself. And don't let them smell fear. Really. If they feel as if you are timid they will walk all over you in all kinds of ways. Try not to ask a whole lot of question. Do things the way you know how to do them. Be nothing but you.
