I would turn into an eagle. They are awesome, so graceful when they fly, yet mess with their young and they will mess you up. Plus, just getting to see the views of the world they get to see as they fly.
My second choice would be a cat. A house cat. I thought of that because I just looked at mine sleeping (as usual) on the chair near me.

I am reminded of a story from the Panchantra. By the grace of a sage a mouse who sought shelter with him got kitself turned into various identities -first a cat, then a dog,etc.but at last returned to his original identify feeling that that is the best one of all I would follow the mouse. I would not ask the sage to let me remain as I am.

Reminds me of a very old joke!
Four (4) very patriotic soldiers were drinking and toasting on the virtues of their individual countries.
The first a Chinese soldier opened with " I drink to the great wall of China"...Here! Here! they all acclaimed.
The second soldier from Ireland followed with "I drink to the Great Plains of Ireland. "...Here! Here! they all acclaimed.
The third a German soldier offered "I drink to the great flag of Germany""...Here! Here! they all acclaimed.
Finally the last soldier, an American said "I drink to the great Bald Eagle of America...Silence and looks of confusion from the other soldiers.
Then In unison they asked the American "why the Bald Eagle"?
The American, chest out in a very loud voice proclaimed " well it's like this...the great American Bald Eagle can fly over the great wall of China, crap on the plains of Ireland and wipe it's but with the great flag of Germany".

Eagles are good, but my first answer would be a Great Whale. I Love whales. They also worship their creator too.
