1. Democrats wet the bed;
2. Democrats take from the industrious and give to the sloths;
3. Democrats criticize the war and then pretend to support the soldiers--the large majority of whom are Republicans who they hate;
4. Democrats burn the flag and then say they did it because they love the country and what it stands for; and
5. As can be seen from the above few instances, Democrats are on the wrong side of nearly every issue.
Hence, I am a Republican by default.

Thank you, philosophygeek, for showing that the Republicans haven't lived up to ANY of their promises. I didn't see one on the list that hasn't been violated by the Bush administration.
They've trashed individual freedoms with the Patriot Act.
They've violated equal rights with their vicious gay-bashing.
They've given the oil industry unfair advantages over alternative fuels and other technologies (in exchange for bribes).
They've taken the nearly balanced budget left by the Clinton administration and run up a multi-trillion-dollar deficit. Somebody is going to have to pay the debt, and they have no right to blame the Democrats when the Democrats didn't do the spending.
They've intruded into our lives with domestic spying.
They don't care what the people think. Even with his approval rate at 15% and dropping, GWB is as bullheaded as ever.
They haven't changed with the times. They'd rather keep promoting the 19th-century internal combustion engine than encourage the development of cleaner alternatives.
They've extended war and hatred throughout the world.
I don't think 15% approval is a sign of success.

The Republican Oath is as follows:
"I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.
I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.
I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.
I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.
I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs least.
I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.
I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.
I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.
FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government."

I'm a Republican because I think the Democrats are just plain wrong on too many issues.

"I'm a Republican Because I'm Rich, and I know where my bread is buttered. I agree to promote the ideas of limited government (while creating new agencies every week, and allowing unprecedented power to the executive branch to invade the privacy of citizens like myself, but poorer), lower taxes (to billionaires and corporations); Bigotry, because it's popular in the "Bible" belt (But only against Mexicans {and other latinos} and Gays. Bigotry against Blacks and Women would be wrong, wrong, wrong {unless we can get away with it.}); Defecit spending, because bribing people to get votes works (even at their inevitable expense); Manifest Destiny (I will support the invasion of harmless but commodity-rich lands to bring their people liberty and freedom at gunpoint, or else); and finally Divine Right, because if I can convince people that God appointed me, they wouldn't dare question the fact that they didn't".

...because helping other people is so obviously wrong. If it was a good thing to do, Jesus would have done it all the time.
