Short answer is that most "solutions" will simply wash the residue into the backing of the carpets; the bacteria takes over and the smells get worse; the animals (not just cats) will gravitate back to the areas and continue to foul it. So the cats will continue to create bigger problems, the carpet cannot really be treated as such after more than a superficial spill taken up immediately and if you lift the carpet you will see why. Underneath it will be a mess and all these preparations often just kill the smell or the bacteria short term but the carpet and its hygiene is often terminal. I wouln't want to crawl round on the carpet after such spills yet many allow babies to crawl on the health hazard. Yuck! As a professional carpet cleaner for many years I have seen heaps of carpet ruined with errant animals inside. Lifting the carpet will often convince that a simple solution isn't the answer.

My husband and I bought a house that had many pets in it with the prevous owner. This owner was sometimes too lazy to clean cages and let the pets out to go to the bathroom.

We had smells everywhere and couldn't get rid of them. We talked to a home health care worker who told me they use a product called PUSH. We bought it at a party supply store but they sell it at janitorial stores. It is not dangerous, but must be used according to directions, or it will not work, because it is a living thing.

PUSH contains a bacteria that eats other bacteria. Bab bacterias are what cause the odor you are smelling. So, if you use it, it will eat the bacteria on the carpet and the smell is gone. You can spray it on the carpet. Once the bacteria is gone, so is the smell.

Then you just clean up the PUSH bacteria.
The only thing is that you have to use the PUSH the way it is directed on the back of the bottle or it won't work. Like, we had to put it on our floor, let it sit for 20 minutes and then dab it up with a sponge. You could see the stuff working and it bubbled up, etc. It killed the pet odor smell.

This worker said they used it on an old woman's mattress who had bladder control issues and it actually turned black from eating all of the bacteria! But, she did say after they did it several times (The mattress was destroyed and had been urinated on for several months) the smell was completely dissipated.

Also, we bought odor trapping bags from Gonzo at Boscovs-our local department store, but they are on line. they are charcoal bags that trap odor from pets and to get the odor out when they stop working, you just put them outside in the sun for a few hours. Then rehang them. They are great for litter box areas.

Hope this helps.

There are several urine cleaners out there if it is just a small stain caused by an accident. Check a pet store or your pet area in the local department store.
Now if it is from spraying it is probably going to take cleaning your carpets with a steam cleaner, possibly several times with a pet stain removal prespray and shampoo.
Cat urine is very hard to remove if it is from marking their territory because they do it over and over again. If it is from spraying you will want to wash the walls in the area too since cats spray vertical surfaces.

There are some products such as "Urine Gone" and "Zero Odor" that are available in the U.S. which use powerful cleaners and enzymes to break down urine and the stains and odors it leaves behind - they claim to be pretty good.

If those products aren't available to you, though, what I've traditionally used is a good carpet/upholstery cleaner (such as Woolite Pet Stain Remover + Oxygen) and white vinegar, so as to try and keep them from going again in the same spot.

Steam cleaners that deep clean carpets are also a good bet...

Good Luck!

- Oh, and if it is from spraying, getting your cat "fixed" (spayed/neutered) may also help if they aren't already...

If you do manage to get rid of the stains etc, the best way to stop it happening again is to control the cats water supply lets say 1hr in morning with their food and the same at t- time always take the water up after the time.
This will teach animals to regulate them selves, failing this get a litter tray

Use a black mild to discover the source of the smell. Any product that has peroxide in it would want to help get rid of the smell. even if, you most likely might want to pull back the carpet, and padding, that you'll observe it to the subflooring besides. upon getting dealt with the subfloor, the padding, and the carpet, bypass over the full room with a steam cleanser to help get rid of any residue left interior the carpet. be positive to envision the partitions, and baseboards with the black mild, too. If it turned right into a male cat, he would have sprayed. It took more advantageous than one remedy in our domicile, even if it kept us having to substitute the carpet. desire it enables.

'1001 - pet stain remover' is the best thing. I have 4 cats so it's like a staple cleaning product in our house! You can find it in the pet section at Asda, Sainsbury's and Tesco. Also if you find your cat keeps weeing in the same place, once you've cleaned up, grind pepper over the area. They can't stand it so won't do it there again!

I've used vinegar to get rid of that odor. My cats did that in my car when I took him to the vet's office once. I poured vinegar straight onto the stain and have not had a problem since.
