As a black woman, I understand your frustration. However, I know a lot of black women who bleach their hair and wear contacts because they think that it makes them look better. So many of us are slaves to what society dictates as attractive. I, too, will be overjoyed when we can be comfortable in the skin that we are in. Until that time, I'll respect that each person is an individual and can alter their appearance as they see fit...even if some of the alterations are hideous. It's a good thing that my mind can't be read by some people I encounter. Oh, by the way, some of the weave, colors, and makeup actually do enhance some people's appearance. I won't knock it totally, but currently I choose to be more natural. I like the way I look, but if I didn't, I can't honestly say that I would never try new things to enhance my appearance. I'm just keeping it real.

Black is beautiful. I have pecan colored skin and my eyes are brown. In the sunlight, they change colors and will go to gray, hazel and a blue-green. People are fascinated by my eyes and eye color. Others want to imitate what they see. Like the fashion of looking like a fat sausage spilling out of the casing (you know, short tight tops and low riding tight bottoms) People feel like they should wear what they saw on someone else and found it attractive. There are people all over down town that feel flip flops in the office looks good. Those are beach and shower shoes! Humans just get carried away. How else do you justify claw nails and the inability to do anything in a normal manner and paying ridiculous amounts of money to have them put on. There are people who freak because you wear your hair natural, even when it's slightly curly. If it's not fried and dyed, they think you are a freak. maybe we can just strive to look clean and pulled together. Who knows what the next fad will be. I will just follow my natural pattern. It 's what god gave me.

I wear blonde highlights, because I am very lightskinned. I loook great in them, and many people come up to me and compliment me on it. I dont have a weave, and my hair is down my back. I dont do the contacts, but there are so many other races out there that wear contacts and u can tell that its fake and it looks terrible. I say that not every look is for everyone. That means that some black girls can wear it and some can not. And I dont think that this is solely limited to black girls. Black is beautiful.

I agree, it does look ridiculous, but I'm very light and I would never go blond even if it did look good on me. I have never wore weave in my life and my hair comes naturally past my shoulders. I would never have any colored hair besides dark brown and black, my hair gets lighter in the summer like in the winter/fall/spring my hair is black with a dark brown hue but in the summer it's more noticeable my eyes also lighten the same way. I would never go around and do that stuff, and I don't understand it. There's a girl at my school, and her mom is very very dark, and you know what she does? She has like a color every year. Currently it's blue, she'll have icy blue tips on her hair ,blue eyes, nails, and she'll wear only blue, black, and gold, and blue make up. It's hideous! But, it's way better than when she did RED!

I actually think some can get away with it without it looking unatural. It depends. I know of this one light skinned girl who has a blonde weave in her hair. She has natural blue eyes too so I think it looks right and also considering her complexion. She is very light so...yeah.

Amen sista. I never did understand it myself. Why we would feel the need to put in some weave, throw on some contacts that don't even look realistic. I was blessed with very light eyes that to this day I still get people asking me if they're contacts (which is annoying to say the least). I guess that's society for you. For years us black women have been made to think we are inferior in our looks because our skin is darker, our hair is kinkier, etc. I say it's time we embrace these things that make us who we are. Our hair, our skin, our lips, everything. Not just the junk in the trunk. And not play into the bullsh*t anymore. Not put ourselves thorough the pain and frustration of straightening our hair every six weeks religiously. It's time we are proud. That's my rant for the day.

It's not for anyone else to judge how one person chooses to dress or express themselves. Everyone is individual for a reason, if we all looked the same how boring would that be? Wearing weaves and contacts in no different from wearing the latest sneakers, right now, that "look" is in. If a woman wanted a mile high blonde weave and purple contacts, I say, go for it. It's your money and your style. And for people who don't like it, look elsewhere, there is enough space in the world that you don't have to look at someone if they are displeasing to you.

The reason why is everyone with blond, why can't you just have jet black tresses with some blonde or blonde tresses with some jet black hair. Right now you don't have to choose.

Thank you! I wish that stuff would go out of style. Especially the nails. And why do women with 3-inch-long, curly nails (white women do it, too) almost always wind up being cashiers? And they have to very painstakingly position their fingers in order to touch each key on the register, and it takes about 10 times as long to ring something up as it should.

Well I am not black, but I often wonder why women of color did do that. Every time I would see a black woman with bleached blond hair I thought tacky. Besides isn't natural beauty best?
