Well, I guess we can thank Kanye West for blowing this one up. News for Kanye: Not only black people were affected by the hurricanes. How ignorant...
(P.S....Of course I know that this question is regarding the actions of the federal government. I was merely making a comment about someone else's opinion of Bush, in regards to the hurricane and how I believe (yes, this is an opinion) he was wrong....it leads into the rest of my post, which you maybe should have read before you commented...)
I think that President Bush (as a person) can only do so much. You can mail something through the mail, but it doesn't mean it will get there in a day. Bush can order for food to be sent down, but he can't physically drive it all there himself. There were many people involved in the process of helping the victims. I am tired of everyone putting it all on his back. Also, there are other members of government that could have stepped in.
We are already in a HUGE national defecit, so we couldn't exactly send everyone nice Sleep Number beds with Egyptian Cotton. Yes, it was cramped in the temporary shelters, and there was a lot of chaos...but look what happened. Katrina was devastating...either way it would have been chaotic! I think that he did a very great job, considering our financial situation and the timing of the storm. Also, it is not only the job of the government to aid the victims, but also US!
Do I blame Bush for the devastation? NO. I blame Mother Nature. Should the government have reacted quicker? Probably. But as for what more he could have done, what?? You tell me...

No, actually the Federal Government should have no part in relief at all. You make a choice to live where you live and should take the consequences of said choices. The Government is not in the business of bailing people out. If you as a citizen believe that you should give to those that made the choice, you should have every right too, but you should not put that belief on anyone else.

Let me clarify something, FEMA was on hand ahead of the storm, waiting, You live in a free, democratic society. That means, should a huge storm be heading your way, you either take care of your self or depend on your government officials to take care of it. However, we are not a military state, which means that when Nagin and Blanco told everyone they had it under control, the government could NOT just move in and take control.
Put the blame where the blame belongs, on the democrats in office who were afraid their corrupt ways would be exposed. Bush did what he was supposed to do, he was stopped by Nagin and Blanco.

More than giving my hard earned tax dollars to all the con artists who are collecting? Yes.
I think he should have FEMA's feet to the fire and make them accountable for WISE assistance rather than knee-jerk assistance.
I'm not talking about the immediate emergency services that were needed. I'm saying that reconstruction takes planning, not just throwing my money around to whoever gets in line.

Yes, He should have done more. Our government needs to do more for it's people. Frankly I think he didn't do more because he can't get elected again. He has nothing to worry about. The peole of this god forsaken country worry more about sex in the whitehouse than they do about starving and homeless people. Otherwise something may have been done. Sad isn't it.
