Why does Superman have a son in " Superman Returns"? I mean there was no sign of that idea in the comics, and the son he has is so sickly,I mean If his son was to be Superman Jr, he would have an asthma attack on the first day he would save someone~ Other than that the movie was great!

I actually felt like the boy wasn't as sickly as he appeared. Lois was very protective of him and was always concerned about what he was eating or doing or breathing. I think she almost made him a hypochondriac.

-SPOILER-

For instance, when the boy finally owns up to his Superman lineage and pushes the piano into the man attacking his mother, he's basically having an "asthma attack." But he still has the strength to push the piano and he doesn't drop dead or faint from not being able to breathe. Anyone with asthma will tell you that it's hard to just have a straight face and stand up when you can't breathe right. It seemed to prove that his mother instilled in him an idea of being weak and fragile, not purposely, but because she loved him so much and was always worrying about him. I mean Clark wears glasses and acts like a dork, but Superman is a regular James Bond. The boy just had to be tested so he could understand how strong he really is. Once he does, he'll realize that he doesn't need to use his asthma pump or to avoid certain foods or anything. There is one scene where go he goes to use his pump and it's empty, but he eventually starts breathing alright anyways.

Point is, I think it's partly just an act because - 1) Lois is extremely protective of him, and 2) no one suspects he's Superman's son just because he's always so "sick."

In the series Louis and Clark, Superman did have a son - and than the series ended.

By the way I have yet to see Superman Returns and I do not have any intention to.

Plus, this a comic based film. It is not going to run parallel with the comics.

At the end of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, I think Superman ans Lois Lane get together. I don't think they are sticking to the comic, maybe his sons power hasn't kicked in yet to make him like his father.

In Superman II he and Lois Lane have a 'moment' while Superman is human, at the fortress of solitude.

I agree. I enjoyed the movie but I did not like the story line with him having a son. I also did not like that he had to be rescued. I will not say more because there are those who have yet to see the movie.

That's the ironic part. When Lex put the krytonite near him to see if it was his son...did you say he's not his son or did you think he was. I think throwing the son in the movie was do. I can't wait to see what they will do with him.
