Your local health department should be able to help you. You don't need insurance to go there and what you pay is based on what you make.

Alot of clinics, such as planned parenthood, will go by your income. If you fall into the right categories you can get birth control for free, like the pill. Or just use condoms. When used correctly they are pretty effective. When used with a back up i.e. foams, jellies, cremes almost 100%. Also try the family independence agency in your area. If you've lost your insurance and in trouble financially ( especially if you have kids ) they can sometimes help.

Yes, you do have to go to the doctor to get birth control. However places like planned parenthood accept anyone and actually, in most cases do not take insurance. It is usually around $80 dollars for an exam. They do a great job, and can get you the right prescription for you. If you do not have a planned parenthood in your area, there are many women clinics that provide the same service...just call ahead and ask.
