Develop good communication with her now, and then in the future when issues come up, you will be able to discuss them with her. If she will be a member of your household, you need to have a positive realtionship, and not just let your husband deal with her. :) Love her, listen to her, and if it's not what you're going to do, talk to her about it.

I think that you should have a talk to your future husband and tell him how you feel. If he loves you enough he will understand where you are comming from and out of respect will then have to talk to his mother (your mother-in-law) about the way you feel. But I must warn you it will be extremely hard since he is a mama's boy and there is nothing you can do to break that.

Do not get into this arrangement. Walk away, it is bad news. Find another guy without the baggage, this arrangement will make you're life a misery because he will always side with his mother. Think about it, does he already side with his mother? If he does it will only get worse if you marry and live all together.

You don't know yet for sure if she will force her ways on you....although history says that it's in the job description for a mother-in-law to be nosy and out of line.
I once heard that if you rearrange the letters in MOTHER-IN-LAW, you get the phrase WOMAN HITLER.....seems fitting in some cases.
Hope all goes well in your case.

I feel for you!.....I couldn't live w/ my mother-in-law.
However, unless you husband to be speaks up she is going to be there. And in everything that goes on in your life....do you speak Spanish? B/c you need to be able to.....that way they can't talk about you behind your back.
I would honestly talk to him and express any concerns that you have...and HONESTLY if she has been here for 30 years...she should have picked up enough English to survive on her own.

i would not be ok marrying this man on these conditions. this is either going to be wonderful for you and everything will work out or you will end up resenting your future husband and will end up becoming an ex husband.
