I'm a lawyer. I don't do any kind of criminal work, i just do commercial transactions. But your question makes me think of some things that my professor in criminal law said back in lawschool.
A lawyer dosn't have to feel this way or that way about what their client did, that's not our place. And, a defense lawyer dosn't have to ensure that their client walks scott free. A lawyer's role is to ensure that their client is given a fair trail that is judged on the merits of the facts, not on abuse of process. Let the defendant, no matter how repugnant, get a fair trial; and let the people be the judge, then we have done our job.

Not everyone who does a good thing is a good person. Unquestionably, it is a good thing to defend an innocent person accused of a crime, and we presume that every accused person is innocent until the verdict comes in. In this case, however, the defenders are not merely doing a job and collecting a fee. They are risking their lives, and the lives of their families, in order to reach a just result. Most defense attorneys are not asked to face that kind of risk. Regardless of whether these people were good or bad in their lives before accepting this challenge, they certainly show exceptional courage---and goodness---now.

If you think for one minute that anybody should stand before any court without a competent and willing lawyer to defend you, then you must be a nazi.
I think George Bush should be dragged away in chains and put on trial at the Hauge for war crimes and crimes against the US constitution. BUT, I think he should have a lawyer willing to do their job honestly as well.
And then he'll be found guilty and jailed for life. (no death penalty)

No, its only fair that he gets a defense. He didnt give it to his people to have fair trials, but we are not saddamn's Baath party. We are the Democratic West and as such, he should be entitled to a full legal jury. We're not animals, unlike the Baathists.
No, his defense aren't bad people, their doing a job. Someone needs to do it so this can be a fair trial
