Whoever created this saying is brilliant. I read a lot of the responses and that is the line they will use as an excuse to let their signifigant other get away with cheating. A man must have created it. Am I the only one thinks "fool me once, and I won't be around to see if you try a second time." Why do people buy into these ridiculous sayings and live their lives according to them?

**Ok, some people are making my point. Such as "once a cheater, always a cheater" saying. Why aren't there any people who can think independently and not rely on lame "sayings" that some one created to most likely get out of whatever trouble they were in at the time.

that is the point of the saying... fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice shame on me... it means, if I am stupid enough to stay here and let you fool me a second time, its my own fault... see?

Well I have to say that if you are fooled a second time then you are not paying attention and it is obviously not a good relationship. Although I've certainly pondered the dilema if a guy cheats is it right or wrong. And I've come to believe it isn't either. I have begun to wonder if a man or woman for that matter cheats what exactly is up with the relationship to begin with. It takes 2 to tango, relationships take a lot of work to make them great. And when they are great there will be no need to cheat.

You're applying the saying only to cheating. It makes even more sense and doesn't require a "I won't be around a second time" because it also applies to the other side...everyone makes mistakes. I wouldn't want to be held accountable to an accident that I made and the person dips out when it wasn't called for....

I don't usually make any sense? does that???

Whoever thinks they can get away with cheating are complete and utter idiots and should be sentenced to life in prison. Atleast in prison it doesn't matter to them. I just wish that guys would treat their girls with respect. I have never cheated, and I won't ever cheat.

I think it's becuase of this lasting relationship craze, everyone's so focused on this that they'll do anything to achieve it. Also, some women have such low self esteem, I guess they think they can't do better.

I used to be really into giving people the benefit of the doubt..... but then I ended up saying "shame on me" enough times and smartened up... I'm in your camp.
