I recently moved to New York to attend graduate school, and people are always making fun of my voice! I love my voice and I have confidence in every thing that I say, is it just New Yorkers that hate southen accents or what?

They are arrogant people anyway. We both know that our intelligence is far more than our accent. From another southerner who has confidence.

I'm British and I have to say that I really like the southern accent in the usa.. in fact the men sound very sexy ;-)
besides all that you be proud of your heritage and ignore those that mock your accent.. they are small minded people because a persons accent shouldn't be a big deal at all!!

I love the southern accents In fact I have one. It is true that we pronouns some words different but we are intelligent people just like everyone else. I love the South!!

I love girls / women with southern accents. I much prefer that to a New York or Boston accent anyday!

Don't worry what others think. The southern accent is the best. I miss mine. I lost it after a couple of years in ohio. Enjoy and be proud of it.

I have a very southern accent, and I moved upstate and it was horrible. New Yorkers, no offense anyone, don't seem to like anyone but htemselves and are not willing to except anyone different.

Well, I'm British and I have visited Atlanta in the south. Everyone sounds so stupid with that drawl.....'how y'aaallll doin' etc etc.
I also went to NY and it was so much better.
