This has flop potential written all over it. Although it is in theory a great idea, the monetary logistics would be to great, as well as the fact that DC comics and Marvel comics will NEVER venture into a movie deal together (think Isreal and Palestine). If it were made, it would have to be at least a trilogy, and opportunity for charactor development would be nil.
The threat that could unite all the heroes of both worlds would have to be something on the level of Thanos and Darkseid finding the Anti-life Equation and reforming the Infinity Gauntlet.

I think flop since there would be no way to create any semblance of character or story, other than the threat. People don't generally go to super hero movies just to see super hero action. The success of films like Superman, Spiderman, Batman, X-Men, and Fantastic Four are more about a compelling story and characters than simple action.

that would cause a whole load of licencing trouble for example all DC heroes( Batman, superman, wonder woman) are owed by Warner bros, while the Marvel heroes are scattered at different studios X-men, daredevil are 20Th century fox while Spider-man is Sony pictures (Columbia Tri-star) and the hulk is universal, for one or even a join effort of studios to distribute a film with such well known characters is gonna cause a ruck between the studio heads, and that's even before you've got a script giving each hero equal screen time(as the studios would want for merchandise and such, bare in mind the studio heads would have some one time how long each of there heroes is on screen) then you've got budget a film would be highly expensive, to hire the actors we all now know from the superhero films (christian bale, Brandon Routh, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Eric Bana to name a few) with studios now trying to cut budgets, for fear of loss (no films are a dead cert, and this could be seen as a huge gamble for all studios concerned) and there is your answer the biggest threat would be it even getting to the screen at all, too many characters, too much money, too much of a gamble to studio heads.
but if it did go ahead, it would be cool to see the heroes against there villains combined (Joker, Lex Luthor, Magneto, Bullseye all teaming up to take care of the world. probably not the answer you were looking for but hey, just my opinion.

Almost certainly it would be a disaster. In the comics it has been tried several times, in (vain) attempts to clean up bad continuity gaffs and consolidate down to a few major plots. DC has had to do it several times with "Crisis" series, and even Marvel has had to revise the origins of its characters along the way. Sometimes there have been delicious stories arising from these endeavours, but they have been generally despised by long-time readers, though to an extent popular with new readers (and writers!) who don't bring a lot of baggage. One of the major problems -- and it would be magnified in a movie -- is that few characters could have more than a few scenes. That would mean poor character development (which requires better storylines to compensate -- difficult to deliver) and the possibility that several characters would end up with their scenes cut. A better idea as a film has been "Mystery Men", in which there are several but not TOO many characters, and they are all new but somehow reminiscent of "real" characters. Another success in comic form which I think could do well on screen is "Watchmen" -- the same sort of idea except more serious.

Totally a box office smash, no doubt. Look how many people went and watched only superman, now imagine how many would look at all their superheroes together.

I have been thinking this for ages. I think the film would be great . Superman/Xmen/Batman/Daredevil/Herbie/Spidey/ you almost get the feeling its what movie people are planning teasing us gently then having one massive showdown - shame they've killed most of the x men.

Have you seen the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen? It could be the answer to your question. :) I liked the movie but I'd never want to watch it, again. So I guess that would be the solution. A so-so movie with good laughs but one more time? no, thanks.

probably not. a movie only needs one superhero to drive the drama, to drive the action. if there were a movie with so many heroes, the directors, producers would not know what drama/conflict to add.
