The pill is oval in shape, not coated, white in color, not a capsule--a tablet, perforated so it can be cut in half, size= 1mm x 1/2mm, on one side it has " G G " & below that is "256"--the other side is just plain with the perforation line. Can anyone help me identify this pill?

The pill you have found is Alprazolam 0.25mg. It is more commonly known as Xanax and is used for anxiety. Hope this helps

I would suggest taking it to your local pharmacy. Not only can they help you identify it, but also give you info on side effects and maybe even if the pill is so old that it's lost its potency.
Never take a pill that you don't know why it was prescribed or for whom!

You might want to get rid of it: That's the safest thing to do with pills you can't identify. And then get rid of the bottle in case it's tainted.

You could call your local pharmacy. Better yet, just throw if away.
