It has risen. Just go and put in your time, so you can get paid. It's horrible. Instead of trying to earn your living, many people just want to be compensated, with no pride in their job. It's all about them, and how much they can take/get. This started years ago when Moms and Dads wouldn't accept the fact that Jr. or Jrette, could possibly do anything wrong. Instead of making the children own up for doing a wrong, Mom or Dad would tell the child how it's someone else's fault. People have to get back to taking responsibility for their actions. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time, as the song goes. When was the last time a 8 or 9 or 10 year old actually made their own science or social studies project?

The way I feel about this subject is: When you are given a job you should always give 110%, you know when you take that job what the pay is, I always worked hard, even though the pay was not always good. There were always a few who just played around all of the time & always seemed to get away with it, I never understood this because I always worked so hard, I never missed work unless I planned ahead, & I had to be almost dead before I would miss, I don't know what it is about the new generation, they want the pay but don't do the work to get it. I think it is because they are given so much & don't have the appreciation for having to work for it. Our country would be in much better shape if all the workers would stick together & put out a much superior product, our jobs have all been taken away, because of this slack. American made has always been superior to all others we need to get back on track. Get in there & do your job & be proud.

The job that used to be done by five people is now done by me alone, with no increase in pay and later hours than ever. It's due to the business owners being more greedy. When somebody quits, they aren't replaced. While I'm working my a_s_s off, I get pictures of the owners vacationing in Europe and then I get dirty looks from the managers. I was written up on Christmas Eve of 2005 for C_h_r_i_s_t's sake because I couldn't move fast enough. There was $15,000 worth of the stock in the back and I was expected to get it up in one day. So excuse me if you don't think I'm doing my job properly you arrogant ******!

What I've noticed is a sharp increase in people. There have always been slackers and people doing just enough to get by. With 5 times as many people in the world, you see 5 times as many of them, add this to the lack of manners of the customers and a bad situation can be exacerbated to appalling.

A sharp increase in the number of people willing to put up with that b.s. I say, you don't do your job, I should be able to reprimand/fire you! I like Missouri for that reason, you don't need a reason to fire someone. (it can bite you in the rear if you're the one fired, but hey, I can take what I dish out). I've had so many jobs where I can't tell someone to get off their butts and actually work! But I get out frustrations on the other end as a consumer.

I have...but i live in Romania so it's not that awkward here. Actually there's this general idea around here that people needn't do their job. Some of the explanations i heard included: 'things aren't going to get better anyway' or 'X isn't doing his job either!'. This is combined with laziness and the tendency to talk about whatever goes wrong in our society, in other people's lives or in politics...basically anything that can distract them from their work.
I don't expect people to deny that we aren't exactly the richest country on this planet...but all the negative attitude isn't going to help anyone.
I am curious to read other people's opinion on the matter because it's something I've often thought about.

One of the reasons is that the labor movement, which was the first and best happening in defense of workers' rights, was smashed by big industry and government. Now, there is really no one to stick up for the worker. So the worker feels, if my bosses are only there to get work out of me and not give a damn for my condition, not care if I'm treated fairly, why should I give my 100%?

People have been reduced to a commodity, workers are "a resource" even if human attached to the word "human." Owners of capital, and their lackeys, management, have forgotten the responsibility they have to care for their workers, as their workers are what make them even more successful. The success gets to their heads, while the envy and frustration gets to the disgruntled workers' heads.

Firstly to the guy who spat out the crap about american made being best. Dude watever the product or service there are at least 5-6 other countries who are far superior to america. The reason there is a decline in work ethics is because of what else the world has to offer now. (ie. entertainment/information/opportunities/drugs..etc.etc.etc). Compare this to what was available to our ancestors and you'll soon see why it is harder for our generation to work shitty, repetitive jobs. THERES JUST SO MUCH MORE OUT THERE,

I don't think it has anything to do with pay. It's pure laziness, and basically, lack of self-pride in what they do. We are more and more, becoming a society in which a vendor of a service or product will treat you as if they are doing YOU a favor for taking your hard-earned money. Pure B.S., if you ask me. If you don't like working for so little money, find yourself a better job; or perhaps you should have thought about that while you were huffing glue in High School, and dropping LSD tabs in college. Hey, I'm not saying I was perfect - no one is - but usually, we acquire the occupation and pay that we deserve for our previous toils (time, money, studies).

Yes, I have noticed and I blame the companies. These days companies want the best for the least. The companies are not willing to pay more money to highly qualified individuals who would do a great job. They opt, instead, to pay very little money to people who are not highly qualified and work with their heads half up their butts.
