Yes, it's about power. And in situations of genocide or war, rape is a deliberately sadistic way of humiliating both the women and the men. And the perpetrators know that if the women live, then possibly their communities will reject and shame them.
But fundamentally any rape, or sexual assault, whether in war, in a stranger-rape or an acquaintance rape, it's simply about the perpetrator seeing the victim as nothing but an object for their use and which they feel they have a right to use if they want. They don't care about the consequences for the victim, they do not care that the victim is not consenting, they do not respect the victim.
In a society where popular culture heavily mythologises the availability of women and presents them as sex objects for the benefit of men, then it's a lot harder to fight complacent attitudes about rape. Sure not all men are rapists, but surveys among men and youths have shown that significant minorities would take sex without consent if they could get away with it . That doesn't mean that men are hardwired that way, it means that they've taken on the attitude from society that sex is something that men do to women, and that women aren't important in their own right.

None of us who are not inside the mind of a rapist would ever understand the psychology of it. In fact, I don't think even a rapist would understand themself. But the one thing I can tell you is that both rape and genocide are about control...power. It's an egotistical battle where the adrenaline rush wins. It's about anger, inferiority, and the loss of control guised by the false sense of having control. There's something that just snaps, and the person goes beyond rational thinking, searching for a quenching of the pains of desire.

Well I don't think it's about power. I think it's about doina really hot chick that would normally never give you the time of day. Either way it's sick and wrong. And any man who take a woman against her will should burn in the firey pits of spam. And suffer 5000 kicks from Bruce Lee.

Yeah, I agree with the last post. Don't mess with a man's vehicle or woman. If you can disrupt both then you have killed not only the man but everything associated with him. I'm pretty sure that concerns about the child are really in play.

Its a powerful method of humiliation and control. You do it because the other person doesnt want it and it will scar them for life. Thats all.
