Few of you have heard of the DARPA challenge. What about taking the challenge onto the roads of America and see who can send an unmanned vehicle on a roadtrip across America. Do you think that can be done?

I think, with an escort and a safety team leading the way and following behind, to protect the safety of this vehicle and of others, this may just be possible. Just a thought.

with an escort blocking traffic, yes. easily.

without an escort whose gonna let someoen try a 100% unmanned vehicle. i'd stay off the road that day for sure.

there is a stretch of freeway out side san diego where they experiment with cars that drive them selves but there is a marine sittting in the driver's seat ready to grab the wheel.

here are some guys that are keeping a journal of their attempts. again, they are sitting in the drivers seat and I saw something about 98% autonomous.

you don't desire a human pilot contained in the UAV. which skill there's a minimum of one a lot less human existence it really is in possibility. UAV's also have a tendency to be so computerized and advanced that that is accessible to have them operated by non-pilots (some branches of the defense force in elements of the international have enlisted squaddies fly UAV's). this skill a lot less education prices for the UAV operator vs a real pilot. some branches, like the USAF, use genuine human pilots to fly their UAVs, so this aspect would not stick to if so. also, in case you're taking the human out of the plane, than the plane's performance isn't restricted to what the human can face up to. you do not ought to pressure about the pilot blacking out by using pulling too many G's. this is likely more lower priced to make a UAV because you do not must have a cockpit. a large shy away to employing a UAV is that you won't be able to fly them over america of a (yet). accessible argue that having a human pilot contained in the plane is extra efficient because there are situations the position you want a real human present to get the interest finished, yet that aspect is arguable.
