That's a good question. Even George Will pointed out that conservation and conservatism come from the same root word. In all honesty some real conservatives do conserve and try to find clean, economical ways to be energy independent. There seems to be a lot of loudmouths in the neocon movement (yes that is an oxymoron) that want to make people think that global warming is some kind of kooky myth. They seem to think that the only reason people are concerned about the environment is to stop their shortsighted and greedy capitalistic motives. They fail to see the obvious opportunities in conservation and sustainable technologies. It doesn't fit in with their narrow minded political agenda.

Being conservative has nothing to do with conserving. In fact most conservatives are consumer greedy. Conservatives are for big business to control everything and since many of them are right wing religious zealots, they believe that God will keep providing all we need until the end of the world, which is, golly, wasn't it supposed to be the millinieum?
Conservative means small government, but the coservatives of today have left that behind. They want their morals to be the law of the land. It doesn't matter if you are raped. They want to have the say over you even if you are an aethist you have to do what they perceive as "RIGHT". Hence right-wing.
I have conserved all my life and for what? So the Conservatives could pass laws that idiots could buy Hummers and drink all the petro and fell good about it because they are Conservatives and don't give a damn about the real human condition.

The terms Conservative and Liberal often get confused between their practical definitions and their political meanings. According to political philosophy, conservatives are those attempting to preserve or restore a way of life. In the case of America this would seem to infer the 50's (hopefully, sans segregation). This is why there is such a close association with the groups that see the modern day as a moral failure, and sexual liberation as a big negative. Liberals in terms of political philosophy seek to promote the individual liberty of every person. This means that they seek to have the least amount of government interference and see each person in a context of equality, providing each with an equal chance to succeed. These terms have been contorted severely in the most recent decades to perpetuate vague notions upon which political actors can draw alliances.

What it seems to be, is not what it seems to be.
I am a gay republican conservative, I believe in alternative modules of fuel. Would you say that I don't conserve. I run a program for recycling all sorts of things, am I not conservative?
You question is valid, however, I think you need to lend a bit more critical thinking to your logic. I am assuming that you are only speaking in your own opinion, not factual information.

Why don't liberals liberate? Seems like you guys would rather have let Saddam Hussein continue to kill, torture, and rape his people...
In all fairness though, I do recycle, and support a search for feasible alternative fuels as a long-term solution to the energy problem we face. I believe it should be funded by tax credits to the companies that do the R&D, and to people who invest in alternative energy solutions.

I asked this same question once. If you think of a forest, the liberals would want to conserve it, while the conservatives would want to cut it down.
It actually has to do with money. Conservatives are more frugal, and liberals tend to spend more.

Do you really think most aren't interested or maybe could it be you are just presuming this. I recycle, avoid wasting water, and would love a better alternative for energy.
