It depends on what you are going for...
Monterey Bay, CA is the most beautiful place I've ever been... whether you are driving the coastline to Salinas, down at the wharf in Monterey, or checking out the beach in Carmel.
For cities, I love Seattle and a had a great time in San Antonio.
For autumn colors, driving in New England in September can't be beat.
I haven't been there yet, but I plan to check out Asheville, NC soon too.... I've heard the views are breathtaking.

I worked at Olympic National Park one summer and that is my answer.
I have been to just about every major National Park in America and I lived in Germany when I was younger, and have been to Switzerland, France, Austria, etc. etc. etc.
The best spot is the Olympic Peninsula of Washington. You have undeveloped rugged coastline, whale watching if you go at the right time of year, dense temperate rain forests with massive trees, fishing and boating opportunities, tons of wildlife, and if you are not into the outdoors scene, you can take the ferry over to Victoria, British Columbia which is a beautiful Victorian town on the east end of Vancouver Island, about 20 miles across the Straight of Juan de Fuca from the Peninsula.
Monterey California is pretty sweet too.

there is in user-friendly terms one answer to this, and that's Honolulu, Hawaii. i've got been there 4 cases, to Waikiki sea coast commonly, and no the place else interior the international beats it. no count the place you circulate, the view is merely breathtaking. this is the main non violent place interior the international. You tension around the island and additionally you would be merely surprised. i've got been around the international and not something even starts to evaluate with Hawaii, not Paris, not Amsterdam, not L.A., not everywhere. To me, Hawaii is my heaven.
