Why are we here? What's life all about?
Is God really real, or is there some doubt?
Well, tonight, we're going to sort it all out,
For, tonight, it's 'The Meaning of Life'.
What's the point of all this hoax?
Is it the chicken and the egg time? Are we just yolks?
Or, perhaps, we're just one of God's little jokes.
Well, ça c'est le 'Meaning of Life'.
Is life just a game where we make up the rules
While we're searching for something to say,
Or are we just simply spiralling coils
Of self-replicating DNA. Nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, nay.
In this 'life', what is our fate?
Is there Heaven and Hell? Do we reincarnate?
Is mankind evolving, or is it too late?
Well, tonight, here's 'The Meaning of Life'.
For millions, this 'life' is a sad vale of tears,
Sitting 'round with rien nothing to say
While the scientists say we're just simply spiralling coils
Of self-replicating DNA. Nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, nay.
So, just why-- why are we here,
And just what-- what-- what-- what do we fear?
Well, ce soir, for a change, it will all be made clear,

The answer to that is: the meaning of life is life.
The term "meaning" refer to intelligence. Jean Piaget (the psychologist) described intelligence as the process of "interiorization of action of subject on object". This process is fundamental. It mean: Through our action we make a picture of reality. Or more simply we put a "meaning" on our experiments. It is very important to understand that the "meaning" come within us. We put the meaning. Reality by itself does not have a meaning. The reason for that is that this is an adaptative process. If I can make a good idea (or meaning) of the consequence of my experience on reality I can better determine what this reality is and increase my chance of surviving.
Mostly all we do goes in the direction of preserving life. There is no metaphysic in this. This is a very deep behavior that we share with all living being on Earth (at different level).
I think we can see in this process a possible origin of Moral Values (again no need of metaphysics...religion).
As an illustration, I would suggest you see the film "The march of the Penguins".

"What is the meaning of life?" is probably the most-asked philosophical question by humanity at large, though we will probably never find the answer, for whatever reason. Common answers include: happiness or flourishing; love; compassion; pleasure; reproduction; power; 42; knowledge, understanding, or wisdom; and being blessed, or achieving union with God or the divine; or simply that there is no meaning to life.
