I'm very active during the day, and I don't drink caffeine or anything before I try to sleep, but I always get insomnia and can't fall asleep. My doctor says it's not a big problem, and it's not efecting my health too much, but I always have terrible bags under my eyes (and I know they're not genetic). How can I get rid of them?

Oh, and while I'm at it, anyone know some cures for insomnia?

Insofar as bags under your eyes are concerned -- they are usually "genetic" and you can't really keep them from happening. But here's how to superficially "cure" them when you wake up each morning ... it works for me.

There's a product -- that you can buy at Wal-Mart -- called "Sudden Change 3-Minute Under-Eye Firming Serum". You just paint it on your bags in the morning, and it literally "shrinks" the skin. You can feel it shrinking the bags, and it sure does show in the mirror. But it's not a permanent cure, obviously -- although it definitely works. You can feel it shrinking the flesh under your eyes, and it makes you look a lot more presentable.

In my case, the bags are generally caused by "sinus problems" and also "alcohol consumption" the night before. But it definitely works.

Insofar as your insomnia is concerned, I have no idea. I do know that insomnia is common during advanced years in life ... for example, I'm 50+ and now find that I wake up frequently during the night whereas I didn't used to. That's just part of the aging process. I just accept it and don't worry about it ... gives me lots of time to think about "life and living". But, if you want to sleep soundly, I find that you can take Benadryl (which is an allergy medication) and it knocks you out real good. But I really don't do it very often because I don't think it does you any good to add extra bad-stuff to your body. In my case, I just "live with it" ... but, if you're a young person and have trouble sleeping, I don't know what to suggest.

Get more sleep LOL

Just kidding. Of course sleep would help but here are a couple of other ideas.

Grate some potatoe and pack it under your eyes. Leave it on there for about 15 min, then rinse with plenty of water. Something in the potatoe helps reduce the swelling / bags under your eyes.

You can also make a cup of black tea and then use the tea bags under your eyes. Put them on there as warm / hot as you can take it without burning yourself .

Lack of sleep can definitely cause those bags under the eyes. You might go for cosmetic surgery etc but they will keep re-appearing till you fix the root cause, i.e, lack of sleep.

A physician might be able to tell you more precisely a cure for your problem. What works for me is to tire myself during the day by working out at gym etc as physical fatigue helps me sleep like a log.

Before you go to sleep at night put 2 spoons in the freezer and in the morning put them on your eyes. Or you can get 2 mint teas bags put the in lukewarm water and set them on your eyes and you will look like you slept forever.
