It is a lot harder to conceive over 35, and there is a higher risk of birth defects, but there is no reason why you can't.

You need to look at your family history. What are her parents and your parents like? Do you have a family history of long lifespans? Can you insure, barring accident, you will be around for your children health-wise? That is important to consider before making a final decision, because after all, they will be left here without you if one or both of you pass away before they are grown. There is nothing wrong with having children past age 35 as long as you are aware you will be over 50 by the time they graduate high school and you are OK with that.

Thirty-five is not too old. Much older and there are some thing to think about.
Risk for Down syndrome
Advanced maternal age remains the only well-documented risk factor for Down syndrome.
With a maternal age of 35 years, risk is 1 in 385.
With a maternal age of 40 years, risk is 1 in 106.
With a maternal age of 45 years, risk is 1 in 30.

As long as she lives a healthy life style she can still have children over the age of 35. She might have complications due to her age, but she can always go to her Dr. to get a check up and see if everything is OK in order for her to conceive.

That's a question she needs to ask her doctor as she gets closer to 35. If she's in good health now, and provided she stays in good health, she may be able to safely have a child in the 35-40 range. After that, it's getting pretty risky.

I have a few friends who waited until they were in their mid 30's and they are the best parents. They have a nice chunk of money saved. They have traveled, and they have done their homework on parenting.
I have many friends who are great parents who have had their children in their 20's but everyone agrees if we had waited we would have been much better and less resentful because we lost out on things and we would have been more knowledgeable on parenting.
This is just my opinion i am not speaking for people that i don't know.....just ones that i know or what i have seen.

There are more complications and higher risks associated with babies that are born to mothers that age and older, including increased chance of birht defects and such.
As long as you discuss with her OB-GYN and get the green light, take neccessary precautions and stay in good health it should be fine. The important thing is to get regular checkups and make sure you have the go-ahead from the doctor.
Good luck with your family!
