Uninstall and then allow windows to find your sound card and install the Windows generic driver. If this doesn't work, try getting the latest driver from the manufacturer of the sound device. Lastly, consider that your sound card is no longer working, which is why Windows doesn't see it.

I'm not too sure about laptops, but try this out...
(1) to open device manager, right click my computer, click properties, select the hardware tab, click device manager.
(2) if there is a yellow ? or ! by something, right click and try to update the drivers for that device.
- if this works, then:
(1) go to control panel, sound and audio devices, and you should be able to mess around with the audio properties.
(2) under the volume tab and device volume settings, click advanced
(3) make sure that the wave volume is NOT muted. Although, if the wave volume is too high, then the audio might sound bad.
If this ends up working or not working, please email me just so i can see what worked or not. (matthewk87@yahoo.com)

DUDE, you're SCREWED.
Seriously though, if you do not know how to install or change drivers, you do not need to try this. Take it to your local PC shop and have them look at it. A knowledgeable tech should be able to fix your problem in less than 10 minutes providing it is not a hardware problem.

volume 2 is a miles extra efficient movie, besides the actual incontrovertible reality that both are favorites of mine. EDIT: the those that did not like 2 because it became "uninteresting" are morons. distinct the persons who say which have the recommendations of a small baby.

can you go to system restore and restore your settings to an earlier date. or go to the Dell site and choose your lap top and install the drivers, it is so easy as it will be self explanatory,
the best way remains to restore your system to an earlier date
