i've been to alice coopers haunted house here in phoenix and it was truly awesome-lots of "characters" jumping out and scaring you in the dark, tombstones unveling their creatures, and lots of running and screaming for your life! (tons of fun-can't wait till halloween again)

Rhonard Park, California had a great haunted house!
And in my dorm hallway in college we made a pully system where you would pull on one end when the person came close to a door (we had trick or treators in the hall way), we would pull and the ghost would move. It was fun.
Black lights, wind, mist, scary music, people/things touching the person, mirrors, people's head's in the middle of the table, etc...
A lot of little things can make it fun and scary at the same time.

There was a haunted house at the mall when I was a teenager. It was the most scary haunted house.
I thought I was going to get hit by a baseball bat.
As least we got free ice cream afer going to the haunted house.

I went to a haunted house that was in an old nursing home. They had little old ladies with no eyes walking around. Monsters jumping out from behind the working desks. They had one room full of dumbies and then in the next room it looked them exact same except the dumbies were real people who jumped out at you. the walls were lined with black plastic and people wore black and hide by the walls.

I very much enjoy stuff like that.
These are just for atmosphere and environment which cuts deeper into the person.
A good haunted house is one at the end of the "tour" there is a staff psychiatrists on duty.
*Blind dark corners, fear of the unknown
*Slight cold breeze in certain areas about neck height
*Low ambiant noise coming from all around
*Glass windows covered in blood slightly open at bottom, like a window you push up to open. (jello blood)
*Sound of a woman crying softly playing around a corner
*If able, wooden plank floor raised about an inch for that true walking on wood sound
*Bleeding pictures on wall. (tubes and tiny holes in piture)
*A empty creeking rocking chair rocking (motorized)
*Blood trail on main walkway or going into a door
*Bloody walls (cornsyrup blood)
*A dummy in a bed with sheet over while the flatline sound plays that might bring the viewer to own mortaity.
*A low level of smoke on the ground (dry ice)
Use some or none that's just some ideas, the scares are up to you.

The Baxter Avenue Morgue, in Louisville Kentucky.
I believe what makes a haunted house the best is keeping it at ONE theme, not having every scary character there is out there. The morgue is based on the morgue theme, and especially sinces its a true story it makes it even better, You have dead people every where, dead kids, everything -- Keep IT IN THEME.. Don't have freddy then jason and so on.. stick to one thing I think its much better.

The Haunted Mansion in Gatlinburg. A chainsaw (MINUS the chain) is always good!! Just the noise alone scares everyone! And make sure whoever is doing it wears a Jason mask. We did it one year on a family vacation, and it was hilarious!

I lived, years ago, in a truly haunted house here in Mexico City. Then we knew that a girl had been drowned in the water deposit, and her corpse was found two weeks later.
But well, I supose you want ideas por "haunted" atractions only, not terror tales. Greetings.

Children's toys that "go off" by themselves. Wow - that is super scary. Just the idea of ghost children creeps me out. Use older type toys like beat-up looking rocking horses and blocks. Maybe even have a large doll that jerks it's head or it's eyes light up red....ooooo creepy!!
