I also once liked the idea of those two as possible careers. What turned me off to psychology was the years of schooling it would take. Writing is still on my list, and personally, the safest because you can still be a writer/editor without college experience.
Just imagine yourself in each career...which one gives you the clearer, more ideal scenario? Would you rather study human behaviour or write? Since you write all the time, perhaps that's the better choice. ; ]

Forensic Psychology is always a route to take. Much research is needed and plenty of options for your professional or creative writing style. Depending on how much education you have currently attained you could double major in your Bachelor degree, get a Master's in Forensic Psych while attaining (or then going on for) a PsyD or PhD in Clinical Psy (thus being a psychologist). But yes, to be a Psychiatrist you would have to receive an M.D.
Your career options have the opportunity to be endless when you have a degree in psy such as the above. Being you enjoy writing, you could seek a career in editing for a Psych Journal, books, etc. Best advice, take some diverse classes and see what you enjoy and feel you are best suited for and know you can be an asset and beneficial in that facet.

You actually don't have to get an MD. Psychologists have either a PhD, which requires more research and writing, or a PsyD, which focuses on clinical treatment. MD psychiatrists are able to write prescriptions, which doesn't sound like the kind of writing you are referring to.
There are ways to combine both fields, such as writing books or articles about psych. Why not explore your options and take classes in both fields, or maybe you could major in one and have the other as a minor. I would suggest that you speak to people in both fields to see what your options are, before making a final decision. Good luck!

Be an editor of a psychology publication. If you don't want to go to medical school to become a psychiatrist or masters/phD to become a psychologist, I would suggest journalism, with a minor in psychology and then pursue work in psych-related publications.

You can become a clinical psychologist, PhD. It's pretty much the same as being a psychiatrist because you get to treat patients.

English and Psychology are both Liberal arts. You can take them both together no problem (I do), and you can major in one or the other and minor in the other, or you could always do a double major with them both.
