Most BMW dealers charge $100/hr labor. Parts are *generally* reasonable (meaning, they won't necessarily be cheaper anywhere else- check http://www.pelicanparts.com for instance). So, if you break a small part, you're looking at $200. That'll give you an idea.
The cost of owning a BMW is extremely high. The car gets unreliable after 65-70K (even a 3-series), so if you want it to run smoothly, you'd have to do preventive maintenance (as opposed to doing post-mortem maintenance on Japanese cars, you know?).
The performance and the ride is one of the best. It even looks amazing. But maintenance is a big let-down.

Depends on the problem and where you take it.....A dealer might charge more than a independent mechanic at a local garage. Upon careful inspection of the problem, i would consider getting it fixed correctly despite the cost. Especially were talking BMW here....if you can afford the car, you can afford the fix...

as a rule yes. Same with Mercedes, Lexus, Saab and even a Cadi. The more 'exclusive' a car is the more it costs to fix. These cars have very sophisticated workings and it is not cheap to repair. Fortunately, my experience with BMW is that they hold up for very long periods between servicing calls. Very reliable..Nice.

If you get others to do the work, then yes. It also depends on the problem. Not all BMW repairs are expensive, just a lot of them are.
But if you can turn a wrench and are willing to do some easy work on your own, you'll save a lot of money.

If you go into a BMW dealership and you walk out without having spent $1000, then they didn't do anything to your car.

I think that most BMWs have a 4 year 50,000 mile warranty. Bumper to bumper.
