Apparently there are many messages in his paintings. In The Last Supper, he actually painted himself as one of the Apostles. He is in the group of three that are turned away from the rest of the group. He's the only bearded one with the two non-bearded guys. This was his statement to say he was protesting the rules the Catholic church was putting on him at the time. Many say that Mary Magdelene is seating next to Jesus in the painting as well. There are other paintings with his hidden messages too, but most of them are just protesting the Catholic church.
Many of your answers seem to have misunderstood your question.

With the level in which Dan Brown researched this book I tend to think that he included this information because indeed it is assumed that this is the case. DaVinci sketched numerous images into paintings and the painting showcased in the DaVinci Code (Magi) is documented to have had numerous images below the painting which was actually painted by someone other than DaVinci, apparently.
Just as the Mona Lisa was rumored for a long time to be a feminine portrayal of DaVinci himself, there has been speculation about a number of things related to DaVinci himself and his works.
Perhaps some investigation of your own might help answer this question a little better. Check out the following: A gentleman in Florence, classed a "diagnostician" discovered a number of hidden aspects in the Magi painting: http://arts.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,11711,1573915,00.html
Check out Dan Brown's own site where he provides you with the background of the book/movie and indicates what is and is not based on fact, including the painting in question: http://www.danbrown.com/novels/davinci_code/faqs.html
Enjoy

Da Vinci did use symbolism in his paintings. All the artists of the time did. The use of certain flowers, hand posturing sometimes colors all had a ' code ' to them. There is a book out there called The Hidden Language of Flowers. It explains which flowers convey which meanings. This ' code ' was used widely even up to the Edwardian period in England.

Although the book is fiction I had an art teacher tell us Da Vinci rejected mainstream religion and did pull "pranks" with his work. For example he painted all the figures in the Sistine Chapel nude.

No one knows for sure, but the group that the book claims Da Vinci was grand master of is bunk. That group (sorry I foget the name) was created in France back in the 1950's.

if anything that guy said was true, don't you think that God would have put it in plain sight, like, say ,ACTUALLY WRITTEN IN THE BIBLE! i don't know about you, but i think that the movie and book both are to get you to talking, i don't think it's bad, i just know that it's not true at all,and if you believe in the da vinci code, well, that's cool, but i don't

Yes and no. Some people believe strongly that he did, others say it's just art. According to the book, there are secret messages hidden in his work, but it's hard to determine whether or not it's fact, or just fiction.

Probably not. The book is fiction! So many people think that the stuff in that book is real.

No - its a work of fiction. I suppose its possible, but experts have examined his works and haven't found anything that remotely resembles a hidden clue of any kind.
