Better question, why should I care about what some jerk down at the bar has to say about a topic? No reason, celebrities just have a better platform. Frankly I'm a little jealous, I wish a million people would listen to what I have to say about poverty.
This doesn't mean every celebrity's full of crap, some really take the time to learn the issues and take a good stand.

Being a celebrity carries a certain amount of perceived respect; i.e. if they are a celebrity they must know more than I because I am not a celebrity. People listen to what celebrities say because they are well-known.

If people are going to take this 'celebrities should keep their mouths shut' attitude, then I guess they're saying everyone should keep their mouths shut. Celebrities have as much right as anyone to an opinion. Right or wrong.
Didn't Republicans just love Bob Hope? Should he have kept his mouth shut about being patriotic?
Can't have it both ways, in my opinion.

Sway put it very well. They are entertainers - keep to the entertaining. If that Bono guy - whoever he is - is so concerned about everything - why doesn't he put some of his millions where his mouth is?

We shouldn't, I know I don't. Their job is to entertain, period. That's what we pay for.
