if just for the laptop, it'd be pretty rare for the laptop to have wireless but not ethernet - you could just plug the dsl directly into your ethernet port.
if for both a desktop and laptop - a simple cheap router (4 port, for example) plugs directly into the dsl, then router to each pc via ethernet cable.
if for both desktop and laptop, but you wish to access the laptop with wireless, then you instead need a wireless access point/router as mentioned by the above posters. the wireless takes the place of the router in the above scenarios, you give it your LAN/DNS setting from the DSL modem, and you're off and running. It will also typically have (if router) at least 4 LAN ports so you would just connect your desktop directly to the wireless router instead of the DSL modem.
there are many online guides that will give you a step by step. off the top of my head, firingsquad.com has a pretty decent one written up in layman's terms covering all of the above. suggest that you go with quality on par with USR or Belkin ... if you go with the cheapie brands like Linksys, Netgear, or D-link you WILL have problems sooner or later.

the wire connected into ur pc is where your dsl comes from. u can plug that into ur laptop, or u can get a router with wireless capabilities, and plug that into the router, then the router will give internet to ur laptop. then plug a wire from the router to the pc and then u have internet on both, so go to radioshack or soemthign and ask about a router.

If your laptop / pc has a networking card, which it should have if its new, then you don't need to worry about anything.
All you need is a wireless router to connect your laptop to you computer. However so, you'll need to change your network settings on either computer to access the internet.
Networking card: i.e: Ethernet

You need a wireless access point or router.
A router... if you're also going to run a desktop.
Then I'd suggest sharing out your drives, and printers.

you need to go to radio shack and get a router. Install it, make sure your wireless card is on, and then you're all set! (I am on a wireless internet right now too!) ALSO! DO NOT USE OTHERS INTERNET SOURCES WITHOUT PERMISSION! THAT IS CALLED WEB RIDING WHICH IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN IN THE CYBERSPACE WORLD! IT IS ALSO ILLEGAL!

The configurations might want to be incorrect. it would want to't be the purely settings you ought to configure. There would nicely be an excellent style of motives why your workstation isn't operating, like the on the spot configuration on your router isn't authentic configured, the on the spot change on your workstation is off. Dont understand what style of d-link router your utilising, and the connections your utilising. you ought to call d-link tech help that permits you to isolate the area ,i imagine its toll free.
