Unfortunately we have a snake that got tangled in one of those sticky trap mouse traps. We're trying to save the poor thing. Any ideas? We really can't use any dissolvants because it'll go through its skin and posion it. Any help would be appreciated.

Take the trap and the snake to a veterinarian if it is a pet they may be able to help.

if the snake is a wild snake take it to the vet and they may be able to get it to a wildlife rehabilitation center. or you can call the DNR for help.

If the snake is still attached to the trap, soak them both in some warm water for a long time. The sticky from the trap will come off of the snake. Keep in mind that you do not have to get all of the glue off of the snake as it will come off when the snake sheds its skin again.

Snakes are not amphibians, so their skin is not as permeable as you think. Try using rubbing alcohol- I used to use that to remove pine pitch from my hands. Cut the trap with a pair of scissors or a knife (from behind) as close to the snake as you can, and then carefully apply a splash of alcohol and separate the trap from the snake's body a little at a time. You might also try Goo-Gone or a powerful spray degreaser for deep cleaning dishes. Wash the snake afterwards with dish detergent to remove any chemical residues.

Vegetable oil, take some vegetable oil and let it soak on the trap where the snake is stuck, this will slowly loosen up the sticky stuff. Don't believe me? Read the other side of the trap, good luck.

Olive oil might work. Use a q-tip and work very slowly. After a while the snake will shed and all the sticky stuff and the sand will be left on the old skin. He'll be good as new then.

i think the snake is pretty much done with because anything strong enough to put on that sticky paper to release the snake is also probably going to kill it, unless if you can cut as much of it off around the snake with out cutting it and then try applying some type of product on the paper by a Q tip dipped into it and apply it as you pull it off. try regular rubbing alcohol in a small area and see what happens and try to keep as much as possible from touching the snakes skin.

You can use vegetable oil to remove the adhesive that is from the trap. That is actually what the package recommends. It really works, too. That should not harm the snake, and should actually remove the trap.

Good luck, and happy greasing!

Try water. Use a popsicle stick or something to get under it and break the sticky.

Is it your pet snake? Is it wild, or venomous?

Be careful.
