For his sake, take him to the doctor. Babies have been known to die with hundred degree fevers. I'm only trying to help. :-)

This is a high fever. So call the doctor, and tell him the baby's symptoms. In the mean time alternate tylenol and motrin every 4 hours. (I have 3 sons and the doctor ALWAYS tell me to do this.) Also try placing a cool rag on his head, at 10 months he may not want you to do this. So if he is fussing and wont let you place the rag on his head, try putting him in the tub with luke warm water. As he is playing in the tub very gradually add cold water. Little by little the cool water should bring his temp down at least long enough for you to get him to the doctor.
I strongly advise you to get him into the doctor at sometime tonight (either the ER or your own family doctor) he could have an infection (possibly an ear infection) which could be the reason for the fever. Regardless of the reason, he needs to be seen.
Good luck, Jess

That happened to my son just 2 months ago and the doctor said that a teething fever should never get above 100 and if it does then it possibly is something else like a Viral Infection and he also double checked to make sure he didn't have Strep Throat. And one more thing he suggested when children are having fever try changing from Tylenol to Advil or Motrin because after a day of taking the same thing it tends to stop working. GOOD LUCK

I would absolutely take him to the dr. and the ER if you can't get in to the dr. I know that I would do that with my nephews if either one was running a fever for that long and it wouldn't go down or stay down with anything (Tylenol, baths, etc.) and they're 8 and 2. It's one thing if it's your kid, but when your responsible for someone else's child, I absolutely wouldn't take any chances! I'd rather take him to the dr. and have them say it's nothing (which, not to scare you, but I doubt it is if he's been running that high of a temp for that long) than wait too long and have him get really sick. Also, I don't think a baby's temp is supposed to get as high as 103 when teething, maybe up to 100 but not 103!

I hate fevers! All these are good advice. When they are little and you aren't experinced, especially with a weekend approaching it's a good idea to get him in to see the Dr. With viral infections, they usually run high fevers and Dr. can't do anything, but can also easily be ear infection at that age. You probably can't tell, but will feel better to see Dr. If you already have seen dr. and still have fever, motrin usually works better and faster. I like to keep it in them every 6 hours with tylenol in between if needed. Do be careful that 2 medicines don't contain same thing and overdose the little guy (tylenol/acetiminophen can cause kidney damage in high doses)

At this temperature, you need to take him to the hospital. Over 100 for an infant or toddler is dangerous. Although it is normal for fever to occur while teething a high fever can have consequences. For the moment take him a cool bath. Not cold, just enough for him to feel slightly better.

Alternate tylenol and motrin. At this point, if he's had a fever at 103 for 20 hours, you need to take him to the ER! PRONTO!!!
This is coming at you froma 3 time father by the way.

Michelle-
Try putting him in a bath of cool water, watching him constantly.
Don't give him aspirin, he's too young for it. Keep track of his tylenol intake so that you don't overdose him (the teething medicine might have it too). If the fever doesn't come down in a couple hours it's doctor time.

Definitely take him to the doctor! My pediatrician recommended that if they are running a 103 temperature or above, that you always need to take them in, especially for having the fever that long.

my doctor suggests tylenol/motrin alternating every 4 hours. Also lukewarm water baths. If he is pulling at his ears it is an ear infection. If you think it is just teething then try the lukewarm bath and see. Give him plenty of clear liquids. Hope this helps

doctors worry when babies reach 102- 104 in temperature but if it is not going away then he probably has an infection that his body is working over time to fight. With a temp that high you should definiteley take him to the doctor. right away. most doctors will let you just walk in with a case like that.
