My daughter is 6 months old. The past couple of days her eyes gooped up really bad with this green goop stuff. for about a day both of her eyes were really red. i thought it was pink eye but was told that pink eye the signs don't go away. I was told that babies develop their allergies at around six months of age. We have a dog. And i think she might be allergic tot he dog. the dog wasn't home for a night and when the dog returned the next day my daughters eyes were worse then ever. It seems to be coming and going. right now her eyes are still goopy a little bit but not nearly as much and not nearly as green. Does anybody have any clue what this could be? i would take her to the doctor but the doctor is an hour away from where we live. Please no smart alleck remarks or comments. This is a serious question.

We live about the same from our pediatrician so I feel your pain. Wash her eyes gently (use your ring finger) with warm water and a clean, soft cloth when they get "gooped up". If several days is more than a week, make an appointment and get her to the Dr. This could be allergies, but could also be a cold. It could also be pink eye. Remember, kids don't usually react to things the same every time. You don't want to mess around too long with eye stuff, it could be or become serious. Meanwhile, put the dog out or in a room she doesn't go to for a few days if that seems to give her some relief. (It may even be the dogs flea medicine or shampoo). Good Luck!

I would definitely recommend calling your doctor. I understand that you live far away from the dr., but you should still call and get over the phone advice. It sounds like pinkeye. I used to get it a lot when I was young, and it was the worst when I would wake up in the morning. My eyes would be glued shut and my mom would put warm wet washclothes on my eyes until the goop would loosen and I could open them. It required eye drops to get rid of though. My daughters pediatrician told me that children don't develop allergies until they are around 2...I'm not real sure whether or not I believe that though! Whatever you decide, at least call and get a professional opinion, because so far, I haven't seen any doctors answer your question on here and eyesight is a precious thing!

It defititely sounds as if your child has allergies to something, maybe the dog, or pollen...it is that time of year.
A call to your Dr. is a good idea. You may find that they have an idea of how to treat her, without you having to make such a long drive. A warm, damp washcloth (very soft 'cause her eyes are gonna get sore over time) should be used to keep her eyes from becoming too congested. You should call the Dr. though because there may be something going around that they already are aware of and can help you with easily.

my daughter seemed to have a similar problem only she was diagnosed having a blocked tear duct and it would get really bad when she got a viral infection like a cold or flu. You should ask your pediatrician about it. Although they can't really do anything for it other than give you eye drops to get rid of infections. Blocked tear ducts usually clear up by the time they reach 1 year old.

I think it could be an allergy but it wouldn't come on that fast usually. She really needs to see a doctor and it would be worth the investment in travel. There really is no doctor closer? I live in the COMPLETE BOONDOCKS but there are several doctors minutes away, including a walk-in clinic. You need a regular pediatrician anyway.

Some babies get gunky eyes with a virus. When the nose drips, so do the eyes. This is not true of every baby, and, if you are worried, ask the doctor. You *don't* necessarily need an office visit, call and ask.

Dander from a dog remains in the house even after the dog is gone for several days. She could have an infection other than pinkeye. If it doesn't clear up in a week, I would take her to the doctor.

It could be conjunctivitis, "pink eye", in which case she will need an antibiotic. Also, It could be allergies. Either way she definitely needs to see a doctor. I would call her pediatrician asap.

When it comes to the well being of a child you shouldn't screw around. See a doctor now. I don't believe there are any here, so get going all ready.
