2539 American troops have died trying to win this so called war so far.
Were they disilluioned John Does too? Too many innocent lives being sacrificed on both sides in such a pointless war between fundamentalist Christians and fundamentalist Muslims

Douglas Adams once wryly observed that fanatics generally win over the rest of humanity because of the level of their obsession. (This explains the high proportion of world leaders through history that have been barking mad.) Whoever seeks power should, ipso facto, never be allowed to wield it.

More specific to your question: this is not open warfare. Therefore, logistics, weapons, armies and invasions are unlikely to bring about 'victory'. As are the normal diplomatic processes which are applied in formal wars. Also, for every terrorist struck down, a dozen more are inspired to step forward. It's as insoluble as the Israel-Palestine situation, and they've been knocking the **** out of each other for centuries, and are unlikely to stop soon.

Al-Queida are nobodies with the dream of being somebodies. How can they win? If they were to wipe out the west would they stop there? I doubt it. Look at Saddam. His dream was to wipe out anyone who stood against him, even if they were his own people. Glory-hunters with explosives. The U.S. need to adjust their foreign policy as well as a few other countries but Al-Quieda are a bunch of stupid ****-wits with no idea of what it is that they're trying to achieve. Most Arab's are racist wankers...

War means innocent casualties, and in my book it means no-one wins. Doesn't matter who's more determined than the other. You don't defend yourself: people die; you defend yourself: people die; you attack: people die.
The only problem is: they believe if they don't attack they don't get heard.

The guys being trained in those camps aren't psychopaths or sociopaths, they're mostly Arabic John Does who lost faith in the world around them and found a purpose for a life wasted... there is no motivation in that, that's what's the scariest, they aren't sacrificing their lives for a cause, they're doing it so they won't think their lives were meaningless.

I don't believe it is "unwinable". I think we need to take the gloves off, though. The terrorists don't have mercy-it's a foreign concept to them, but we expect our military to be sensitive to them?

When it comes down to it, if we took politics out of this, we could whup 'em. But we have to play nice to keep the left happy.

yeah, it keeps on going on and one official said it would last decades... NOT what anyone needs. besides, the al-quada seem very determined, because they are very religious with the allah and muslim thing, but the brits and americans aren't solely doing it for religion side of things. the coalition want to free iraq (or as they say so) and sort it out (as they say they are doing) but everytime it seems Blair says it's going somewhere, it seems to drag on for weeks.

Damn right it's unwinnable, cos for every terrorist killed there are another four stepping up to take their place. Bush is CREATING terror with this tactic and it won't be long before he's created an entire generation of American hating people.

we've stopped distinct attacks on US soil. by us being in Iraq has no longer helped end terrorism contained in the U. S., extra efficient intel has stopped terrorism contained in the U. S., no longer the conflict in Iraq. If any aspect we've created extra human beings to take with the terrorist. we're not combating terrorist. were combating extremist in Iraq the real terrorist are very well concept out and plan for years who to attack us.
