i would go up stairs for a minute to check on the kids, then go back downstairs with the parents untill they are ready to leave...then lock the door behind them,....that gives them a sense of security that you are responsible enough to make it your personal responsibility to make sure that the door is locked and the kids are safe...

Work on you spelling and use spell check. Call or shout upstairs and make sure it's OK for you to come up. If not, get the children downstairs so you can get started. It is a job I know, but it won't be if you can make it fun. Try to make all of the jobs in your future fun and you will never really have a job. The answer above was good also.

Say, "I hope you have a great time. I'm going to go see how the children are doing. See you later". Then head upstairs and start doing your job.

After all, in any other business you don't wait until the boss LEAVES before you get to work!

Go upstairs immediately and see to the kids and their needs, you came to baby-sit them; not usher their parents off.

Either see if the parents need to tell you anything more, or tell them that you're going to head up and let the kids know you're there.

If you don't know the kids, meet them n front of the parents. If you've babysat them before, go up and play with them.
