I'm about to reserve a room at a Holiday Inn. One of the listed options for a room is Holidome. I have no idea what this means or what Holidome has to do with a room, and their website isn't any help.

The "Holidome" is an indoor recreation area (usually it means the indoor pool and exercise room...in some hotels there are some other entertainment / fitness amenities in the 'holidome'). A "Holidome" room means that this room is adjacent to the holidome, ie, it opens right up to it.

While some Holiday Inn properties still sport a "Holidome", its a marketing concept that is no longer in current use by the chain. Basically, if it's important to be near the indoor pool, choose a holidome room. Otherwise, don't sweat it.

It usually means that the hotel has an areas that is covered by a glass ceiling, like an atrium, and inside is usually the checkin desk and a courtyard that has a pool and maybe a hot tub, and maybe a mini-golf course, and maybe a cafe, and maybe a bar, and any number of other things. Usually you can get to rooms on the first floor of the hotel by walking around the enclosed area and sometimes the second story rooms have patio doors that look out onto the Holidome area. These hotels are usually located in parts of the country where it is rather cold in winters.

Many Holiday Inns have rooms which open onto a large domed area (Holidome) which includes an indoor pool, etc. It's a good idea if you have kids who want to swim or run around, but not if you want quiet.

It was cool back in the day... it's essentially a pool, hot tub and gym area at the hotel. When they first started it, there weren't very many gyms at hotels, so it was cool. But now most of them have them... I think they also have water slides and things to entertain the kids.
