As far as I see it there are only two ways to get rid of poverty. One is to redistribute wealth so that all the wealthy and middle class people give up money and resources to support the poor
Two is to control the population of poor people through education and birth control etc... So they stop breeding beyond their available resources.
The biggest problem with the first solution is it's essentially communism and we've seen how that never turns out well on a large scale
The biggest problem with the second one is that we'd essentially have to regulate reproduction of poor people which would cause the religious people of the world to riot and is also a big human rights issue/cultural problem.
Does anyone have any realistic solutions or should we just expect to always have a world where some groups prosper and live well while others fail and live in abject poverty

No, because humans are competitive by nature. One wants to have more than the other. They will never settle for "good enough". Besides, there will also always be lazy people who will always opt for easy way out. I don't think that hardworking people should always look after those lazy individuals.
Socialism is the closest we can get. But even that, is not good enough. Do you truly believe that we can get rid of hierarchy in all societies? Before you get rid of poverty, get rid of monarchy first.

for a start it wont happen
but pretending it could redistributing wealth doesn't have to equate to commo.
there's a system that's pretty old now called LETS i cant remember wot it stands for but it basically sets a cap on how much wealth anyone person can have.
you can still go out and make a lot of money if ya want but not stupid amounts like now.
it does other stuff as well.
like some basic guidelines for living and stuff.
most OK but would need a bit of tinkering to get just right.
another thing it does is put the control at a community level so with a informed educated peoples the environment sets the population levels.
in first instance would need to shift wealth and people where would be really most productive in a sustainable manner.
as i said earlier will never happen.

as pessimistic as it sounds, i dont really think we'll ever be rid of poverty. why should those that have amassed their wealth through hard work or inheritance be forced to distribute it for the sake of economic parity? while this government does not force sterilization, why should any of us (particularly the working class) continually be forced to take care of people that don't or won't take the responsibility for their own reproductive activities, especially when they're receiving government aid or not earning enough salary, not to mention children of illegal immigrant parents born on american soil?
it would be really easy to say that this country is about greed and its the haves against the have-nots, but it isn't that clear cut. people don't consciously want to live in an impoverished state however, some of the things they do put and keep them there. there are too few taking care of too many. for some, poverty is a mindset, a way of life.
in this country, i see education as the best way out of poverty...teaching people to be self-sufficient and responsible. helping to better one's situation first will enable the same one to help another and so on and so forth. no one has to be a victim of a vicious cycle regardless of how it came about.

White Americans and Europeans have zero and negative population growth. We've done our part.
Whenever someone has a thoughful suggestion, the left-wing kooks come out of the woodwork to call us racists. Let the bastards freeze in the dark.

No,it's not realistic,for now.But in 100+ years from now,possibly.
Essentially, the world, right now, is run by a Capitalist mentality.Greed rules. This whole mind-set would have to drastically change to a more compassionate, how can I help my fellow man,mind-set.
Will this happen? I believe it will.Unfortunately,it's going to take a long time.
