Does anyone know of anything that will slow down your period for a while? Like....any type of pill (that's easily accessible/common) or food or something?

The question is, "why do you want to slow down your period"? Are you having them frequently, are you having heavy ones, or are they "normal" and you just want a break from them?

Either way, there is nothing that is easily accessible to do this. There is a birth control pill that is fairly new that says you will only have 4 periods a year; however, I don't know how safe these would be.

All the doctor's that I've talked to and been to say it's not good to miss periods. When this happens you have an increase in the chance of getting a female cancer. I don't think slowing down or skipping a period for convenience sake is worth that!

Periods are a thing that girls have to learn to deal with. If you are having problems with yours then you need to call your doctor and ask him/her questions and get it resolved. If you don't like what you hear from them then you need to find another doctor.

You have to take your health into your own hands and work WITH your doctor. Use his/her knowledge, but use yours too. You know your body better than anyone! If you have a "gut" feeling, go with it.

Good luck!

Birth control pills will stop your period as long as you take the ACTIVE pills [first 21 pills on a 28-day pack]; when you take the 21st pill, THROW OUT the 7 inactive ["sugar" or placebo] pills, and start a new pack the very next day. As long as you take the active pills continuously, you won't get a menstrual period. To make it a little easier, you might ask your Gyno to prescribe the 21-day pill packs, and take them continuously, without stopping for the seven days you usually do. There's also a new brand of Pill called Seasonale, in which you take active pills only for 3 months, then stop for 7 days, thus getting your period only four times during the year.

I am on birth control and my period only lasts 4 days and it's light, I have no cramps and I always know when I am going to start my period. My face doesn't break out and I didn't gain weight with the pill. Yes, birth control in the miracle pill. Good Luck!

P.S. It's Ortho TriCyclin Lo (maybe mispelled) and it takes about a month to get into your system.

birth control pill....
you know how you have pink, or blue pills for about 28 days...then there are white or yellow pills for you "period days" just don't take the period days pills...start with the next months actual pink or blue pills.
the white or yellow pills don't have any medication in them to stop your menstrual cycle, and when you stop taking the actual medication...you period comes. if you continue to take the medication then you wont start your period yet.
its not good to do this for longer than 3-4 months, but some doctors are fine with it now...and some even have pill packages that allow you to only have 4 periods a year!
call your doctor and ask

Depending on how heavy your bleeding is and how suddenly this began, you may want to get checked out for fibroids, endometriosis, or other medical issue that may need to be addressed. Please find a healthcare practitioner that you trust. Standard medical treatment is the pill or progestin. A more natural approach includes dietary changes, addressing stress levels, and safely trying herbs. Increasing nutritional quality of foods can make all the difference: fresh veggies, fruits, complex carbs, whole grains, a high-quality multi-vitamin, vitamin C with bioflavanoids, are all reported to be helpful. high quality essential fatty oils such as flax, cod liver, or fish oil can also be helpful. Iron may be depleted and food sources such as black strap molasses, dried apricots, and red meats (organic if possible) may be indicated. Red Rasberry leaf tea is an excellent uterine tonic and a very safe astringent and can be found in tea bags at many grocery stores by brandname Traditional Medicinals, also in bulk in healthfood stores. This has been helpful for many women for thousands of years! There are many other herbs and you can research them in such books as Herbal Healing for Women by Rosemary Gladstar and Women, Hormones, and the Menstual Cycle by Ruth Trickey and/or by finding a qualified herbalist in your area ( http://www.americanherbalistsguild.com/ )

They have this kind of pill that makes you have only 4 periods in the year, but it can be very dangerous to use though. I saw a commercial for it, but it can lead to serious risks.

depo is definitely the birth control that you need to consider. its a shot that you take every 3 months and it stops your period completely. the most you will encounter is a few spots of blood a month. I've tried it for 3 month and i recommend it to you if you want to stop your period completely.

Get pregnant. That'll slow it for 9 months, tops.
